On Thursday, HBO Max shared a first-look still from the set of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts — and fans are undoubtedly over the moon.
Return to Hogwarts is due to air on the streaming service on Jan 1, and will see the franchise's biggest stars return to mark the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the US).
The first teaser trailer was shared to the official Wizarding World account and sees a slew of iconic Harry Potter stars receive a Hogwarts letter, inviting them to the reunion. Now, we have our first official look at the franchise's three main stars.
In the photo, our childhood faves, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ronald Weasley (Rupert Grint), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) sit on three perfectly socially distanced sofas in what appears to be the Gryffindor common room.
Last month, it was announced that the three child stars, as well as many of their beloved costars, would be reuniting for the first time to celebrate the first film in the highly popular movie series.
HBO Max shared the news through the teaser trailer, which was captioned: ''The invitation you’ve been waiting for has arrived. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is coming to @hbomax on New Year’s Day."
"Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson join other esteemed cast members across all eight Harry Potter films as they travel back to Hogwarts for the first time to celebrate the anniversary of the franchise’s first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which premiered 20 years ago this year," it continues.
"The retrospective special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. The highly-anticipated retrospective will be a capstone event of the holiday season, dropping as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, on HBO Max.''
As well as the three central heroes, fans will see the return of other cast members, such as Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will premiere on January 1, 2022, on HBO Max.
