The Ozark finale has sadly left fans bitterly unimpressed.

On Friday, the last seven episodes of the incredibly popular Netflix series hit the platform, resulting in viewers scrambling to find out what happens to the Byrde family. Would they be able to get out of the Ozarks and live a clean life? Or would their dealings with Mexico's Navarro drug cartel finally catch up to them?

Also, would Ruth be able to avenge Wyatt's murder and get payback on Javier Elizonndro and finally stick it to Wendy? Would PI Mel be the one to finally solve the case against the Byrdes? Or would FBI agent Maya continue to go solo and take down the family?

With season four of the show being split into two parts, fans of the show have eagerly been waiting for over three months to find out the answers to these burdening questions.

Going into these final episodes, Ozark had so much tension that it had the potential to deliver one of the greatest finales in history. But after watching the conclusion to the series, people have taken to social media to blast the show's ending.

WARNING: This article will now contain SPOILERS for the final episodes of Ozark

If you've got to this point in the article, I'm guessing you've binged all final seven episodes over the weekend and now you want to know if people agree with your opinion.

A lot happened in the final episodes. Ruth killed Javi. Wendy's dad showed up, got drunk, and left. Sam was baptized. Maya was placed behind a desk. Rachel returned to help Ruth take control of the Missouri Belle. Nelson was finally offed. Wendy checked herself into a mental health facility. Javi's mom, Camila Elizondro, had Omar Navarro killed and took control of the cartel.

But undoubtedly the two biggest shocks surrounded the Byrde family and Ruth.

Firstly, after Clare Shaw told Camila that Ruth was the person who killed her son, the ruthless new head of the Navarro cartel took revenge. Confronting her at the Langmore home, Camila shot Ruth in the heart in one of the most symbolic deaths in TV history.

Dressed in white, anti-hero Ruth was able to die a clean woman, with her criminal record expunged. Now, she could finally join the rest of her family - and Ben - in death.

Secondly, the Byrdes got away... Yes, Marty finally won.

Despite Mel finally cracking the case and getting enough evidence to bring Wendy and Marty down, it was Charlotte and Jonah who came to their parent's rescue, with the 15-year-old aiming his shotgun at the PI and the shot being heard as the screen cuts to black.

Mel's death showed that with enough money, corruption, and power - people can do whatever they want and get away with it.

However, after watching Ruth die and the Byrdes get away, many viewers took to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the show's finale - with many calling it worse than Game of Thrones.

"The final season of #Ozark was utter garbage. Game of Thrones level of finishing something terribly," one person tweeted.

A second added: "The writers of Ozark must have been inspired by Game of Thrones, what a s**t ending."

And a third wrote: "The ending of Ozark managed to be infinitely worse than the Sopranos, Seinfeld, Lost and Game of Thrones combined."

And the negative reviews continued:

I personally enjoyed the finale. It wasn't as action-packed as say, the Breaking Bad finale, but it stayed true to the story the show was trying to tell: Some people can manipulate their way to the top, and some people can't. Some people are playing chess, while some people are playing Candy Land.
