Last night at the DC FanDome, comic book fans were treated to the first official trailer for the new Batman movie.
Starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader and directed by Matt Reeves, the trailer promises a dark and gritty Batman movie - and it looks as if many of Pattinson's early critics will be eating their words regarding the backlash surrounding the former Twilight star's casting.
Check out the epic trailer below:

Fans of the Dark Knight may also notice that Pattinson's Bruce Wayne doesn't exude the billionaire playboy version of the vigilante that many of us have become accustomed to thanks to Christian Bale and Ben Affleck's portrayals. Instead, he seems more troubled, unkempt, and dare I say it, more gothy.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse at Jeffrey Wright's James Gordon and Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman, as well as confirming Paul Dano as the movie's lead villain, The Riddler.
However, many viewers were left scratching their heads trying to spot another big-name star. It had been previously confirmed that Irish actor Colin Farrell would be portraying Batman villain The Penguin - but upon first watch, there was no sign of the handsome 44-year-old hunk.
Then, upon a second watch, people finally spotted him - and oh my goodness, what a transformation.
After the penny dropped, people quickly took to Twitter to share their astoundment over Farrell's appearance:

Speaking to SFX Magazine about starring in such an iconic franchise, Farrell said: "The whole prospect is really exciting. I'm ecstatic to be part of that universe. There are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon and those words are Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent... all of those things."
The In Bruges star added: "I have been watching the Batman films with my kids, but this script is something that feels incredibly original.
"It leans into it but it doesn't borrow; it's born of the mythology of that character, Bruce Wayne, Batman and Gotham. But it feels like a treatment and a version that I hadn't seen before. Matt Reeves has done an incredible job of keeping it familiar and at the same time unique and new. It's really exciting to be a part of it.
"I saw Batman Returns back in the day when it first came out, so of course, I have seen Danny DeVito's Penguin and loved it.
"The first Batman with Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger and Michael Keaton was incredible. And Danny's Penguin was devious. It was so incredible, I remember it so clearly."
We honestly cannot wait for this movie - it could be the best Batman movie yet!
