Marvel has finally dropped the new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder today.

The trailer marks the first glimpse of the movie fans have received, with Love and Thunder being the fourth stand-alone Thor movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Chris Hemsworth's ninth feature-length appearance as the God of Thunder.

However, despite much of the trailer focusing on the latest antics of Thor - including him dropping his Avengers: Endgame weight - fans were more taken aback by the brief appearance of Natalie Portman at the end of the trailer.

Portman first appeared in the franchise back in 2011 as Thor's love interest, Jane Foster. She then returned as the astrophysicist in the 2013 sequel and worst MCU movie to date, Thor: The Dark World. However, 40-year-old Portman was noticeably absent from the third outing, 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.

Back in 2019, Portman told ET that she didn't appear in the movie because it wouldn't have made sense for her character to appear in space - where much of the movie was set. However, there had been rumors that the Star Wars star was unhappy over some creative differences.

Nevertheless, Portman is back - much to the delight of fans - who get to see her briefly wield Mjölnir in the new trailer.

However, instead than asking how Jane has obtained the mythical hammer (after all, it was last seen being wielded by the late Steve Rogers in Endgame), people are more obsessed with how jacked Portman is looking as her new alter-ego, Mighty Thor.

After the trailer's release, fans took to Twitter at their amazement over Portman's Hemsworth-like guns.

"We have entered the age of people who want Jacked Natalie Portman to break their backs and make them humble," one person tweeted.

"Natalie Portman is JACKED!!! Holy moly," added a second.

A third tweeted: "Is it just me or did Natalie Portman get completely jacked?"

And the compliments just kept coming:

Portman had previously taken to Instagram to explain that she was going to "get jacked" for the role, and in an interview with Yahoo! back in October 2020, she said of the upcoming movie: "I can't tell you that much. I'm really excited. I'm starting to train, to get muscles. If there can be all these female superheroes, the more of them they are, the better it is."

And after on-set images leaked online last year, fans have been dying to see the results.

At the time, one Twitter user wrote: "Natalie Portman reminds us why she's one of the best working today! Absolutely love seeing the dedication and commitment she gives to every role emotionally, mentally, and physically! Can't wait to see her crush it in Thor: Love and Thunder"

Another added: "WOW! Natalie Portman got buffed! I never thought I'd see the day."

Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Christian Bale as villain Gorr the God Butcher, Chris Pratt as GOTG leader Peter Quill/Star-Lord, and Tessa Thompson as the newly appointed leader of New Asgard, Valkyrie.

The film is set to hit movie theaters on July 8, 2022.
