People on social media have been sharing their disbelief, shock, and outright heartache after learning the "real height".

For those of you without kids who haven't had to endure Dora the Explorer at 5:30 in the morning, she is the star of an animated children's TV show that has been running now for 20 years.

Full name Dora Marquez, she is a seven-year-old Latina girl who loved going on adventures alongside her sidekick Boots... who is a walking talking monkey.

But perhaps even more bizarre than an anthropomorphic monkey is the "real height" of the lead character Dora.

You see, a few curious (and evidently bored) social media users decided to google how tall the seven-year-old girl was, and the answer is both terrifying and heartbreaking.

Per Comicbook.com, Dora is canonically 5 foot and 2 inches tall.

That's right. Seven-year-old Dora the Explorer is 5ft2" tall. Dora is taller than my gran.

And after learning the somewhat shocking news, it didn't take long for people (many of whom are shorter than the cartoon character) to take to Twitter to share their disbelief.

The first post to blow up on social media was shared by Twitter-user @JENoHOLIC, who wrote alongside a screenshot of her Google search: "only people taller than dora can like this".

After amassing over 138,000 likes and 16,000 retweets, others started sharing their responses.

To try and put this into context, seven-year-old child Dora the Explorer is the same height as the late music icon Prince, rapper Nicki Minaj, and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.

The fun-loving adventure seeker is also four inches taller than beloved actor Danny DeVito.

And according to MedicineNet.com, the Dora is 0.3 inches taller than the average Hispanic American woman.

In addition, BabyCenter.com states that the average height for a seven-year-old girl is four feet - a whopping 1ft 2" shorter than Dora.

With this information now public knowledge, I can only imagine the bookies taking bets on how tall Dora will be when she turns 16.
