Shrek fans have been left shocked at the discovery of an X-rated joke that most of us missed.

TikTok user @Kathy_Martinez05 has become known for highlighting childhood films filled with adult jokes and her latest subject is a scene featuring Lord Farquard from Shrek, which recently turned 20-years-old.

In the clip, which has been viewed more than 8.4 million times, the famously overcompensating character can be seen shirtless in bed with a martini as he asks the magic mirror: "Show her to me. Show me the princesses."

Watch the shocking TikTok below:

It's at this point that the magic mirror – who is basically a person – reluctantly shows him Princess Fiona and that's when the camera cuts to his crotch, showing that he's more than a little excited by the sight.

Lord Farquaad then has a quick peak under his zebra-patterned sheets, looking more than a little uncomfortable.

The X-rated joke which made its way into the 2001 children's movie was captioned by the TikTok user: "Did anyone else catch that?"

It then quickly became clear in the comments section that the scene had completely gone over the heads of most Shrek viewers.

One TikTok user wrote: "I'm not at all innocent. But i am traumatised from seeing this and understanding now [sic]."

Meanwhile, a fifth TikTo user questioned how something so X-rated made its way into the movie.

They wrote: "why? why did they do that? who agreed to animate that? hello??? [sic]"

However, a fifth revealed that as a child they interpreted the scene completely innocently.

They wrote: "When I was younger I thought he spilt his drink [sic]."
