Some reality TV moments are entertaining, and then there are moments that become legendary.

Enter La Isla de las Tentaciones — which is Spain’s version of the popular US reality show Temptation Island — and the now-viral meltdown of contestant José Carlos Montoya, whose dramatic heartbreak has captivated millions across the globe.

It all started when Montoya, deeply in love with his girlfriend Anita, agreed to test their relationship by living in separate villas filled with attractive singles.

As expected, temptation ran high, but what unfolded became the reality TV moment of the year... Nay, the TV moment of the decade!

Montoya’s Descent Into Heartbreak

After a clip of Montoya receiving a lap dance and a kiss from one of the singles was shown to Anita, she decided to respond in kind — flirting with a contestant named Manuel. But when Montoya was later shown footage of Anita and Manuel getting far too cozy in the pool, his reaction was nothing short of theatrical.

First, he flung the iPad showing the footage across the floor in frustration. But nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to witness next. Check it out below:

Show host Sandra Barneda took him away from the villa to show him another live feed — this time of Anita and Manuel kissing in bed before the lights went out. As the reality of the situation hit, Montoya completely lost it.

With his face contorted in anguish, he screamed in pain, yanked at his hair, and dropped to his knees. And then, he did the unthinkable — he ran.

The Run Heard Around the World

Lightning flashed dramatically in the background as Montoya sprinted across the beach like a man possessed, screaming Anita’s name in desperation. Barneda ran after him, shouting the now-iconic phrase, "Montoya, Por Favor!" (Montoya, please!).

By the time Montoya reached the villa, Anita and Manuel were well under the covers. His agonized screams interrupted their moment, sending Anita into a panic as she leapt off of Manuel.

Instead of remorse, Anita immediately turned to rage, calling Montoya a "scoundrel" as he collapsed onto the beach, wailing. Manuel tried to comfort her, but moments later, the regret kicked in. Anita ran after Montoya in a dressing gown, pleading for forgiveness and demanding to leave the show.

Barneda, however, was having none of it. She firmly told Anita to go back inside, ending one of the most intense reality TV showdowns in recent history.

The Internet Reacts: "This Is Cinema"

It didn’t take long for Montoya’s heartbreak to go viral. The footage has now been viewed over 190 million times in one tweet, with social media dubbing it one of the greatest reality TV moments ever.

“This is CINEMA…Montoya..the tension… you don’t need to speak Spanish to understand, this is insane,” one user raved.

A second added: "Anyone who hasn't seen this yet and is wondering who Montoya is, I present the best reality TV scene to ever exist."

Another joked: "Jesus walked on water, Montoya ran."

Others, however, were quick to defend him, with comments like "Montoya deserves better" and "Justice for Montoya".

The moment even transcended reality TV, with the US Open's official X account using Montoya’s screams in a meme about tennis.

Reality TV Gold

With La Isla de las Tentaciones now in its eighth season, this moment is being hailed as one of the greatest in reality television history. Fans of the genre argue that Temptation Island has never seen drama quite like this.

One person summed it up best: "I can't get over how immaculate Montoya's crash out was. That's historic stuff, man."

While it’s unclear what’s next for Montoya and Anita, one thing is certain — this moment is etched in the history of reality TV forever.
