Game of Thrones's eighth season is just over two months away now, but we still know relatively little about the final episodes. Given that we've had to wait an extra year this time, the impatience of the fanbase has left us all looking for whatever we can find, with some even going so far as to make their own elaborate fan theories.

One new theory in this vein predicts that everyone's favourite bastard Jon Snow will have even more hard times ahead of him. Aside from the fact he's got to somehow take on the Night King, who has an undead army and zombie ice dragon on his side, he's still got a lot of problems to resolve with the living humans who are meant to be protecting the realm.

And, according to an idea from IBT, Jon might end up making an unlikely alliance to save the day - by marrying Cersei Lannister.

Now, it's far from the most likely pairing in the show, especially seeing as the last season brought Jon together with another queen who's after the Iron Throne. Jon and Cersei first met last season, where Jon refused to bend the knee to her and therefore failed to gain her as an ally. Tyrion later sealed the deal - although Cersei soon confessed to Jaime that it was all part of a larger plan to betray them. This play lost Jaime as her right-hand man, freeing her up for a possible strategic marriage.

They are set to meet again at some point in season eight, and IBT posits that as she starts to lose her grip on King's Landing, and with a potential pregnancy, she'll be in need of some support. If they were to marry, both their armies could unite against the force of the White Walkers, while she can benefit from the fact that Jon is secretly related to royalty in his own way.

If this were to happen, it wouldn't just be Cersei and Jon who are unhappy about the arrangement. You can't imagine Arya or Sansa would be happy about the marriage, and it may be heartbreaking for Daenerys, who has only just fallen for Jon.

Emila Clarke, who plays Daenerys, has previously said that her character's feelings for Jon will make any revelation devastating to them both. "Daenerys’ life long dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne," she said. "She truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep."

"People have come up with so many fan theories about how it’s going to end, and who will end up where, and who will end up with who," Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa, previously said of what fans can expect. "It really is so unpredictable the way that it ends up. I’m very satisfied with that, and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that, too."

The eighth season will premiere on April 14.
