Believe it or not, there are some movies out there where the actors had unsimulated sex on screen.

To make it even weirder, you've probably seen some of these movies, and you're definitely familiar with the actors.

Without much further ado, here are 10 movies in which actors really went above and beyond.

Pink Flamingos – John Waters (1972)

John Waters’ cult black comedy isn’t for the faint of heart. Starring drag icon Divine, the film follows a bizarre competition to be the “filthiest people alive,” per BBC News.

And it doesn’t shy away from extremes. Known for its grotesque tone, the film features close-up shots of “actual fellatio,” making it a notorious landmark in underground cinema.

Antichrist – Lars von Trier (2009)

Starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antichrist is a psychological horror filled with grief, sadomasochism, and violent eroticism, per the Guardian.

In a particularly unsettling scene, body doubles are used to depict unsimulated intercourse by a dead tree with corpses in its roots. Director Lars von Trier channels pain and religion into this disturbing masterpiece.

Love – Gaspar Noé (2015)

Gaspar Noé’s erotic drama follows a couple who invite a third into their relationship — only to have it spiral. Featuring actors Aomi Muyock, Karl Glusman, and Klara Kristin, the film includes unsimulated sex scenes designed to feel intimate, not just provocative.

With moody lighting and a red-toned color palette, it leans into sensual storytelling without holding back, per the Guardian.

9 Songs – Michael Winterbottom (2004)

Starring Kieran O’Brien and Margo Stilley, this romantic drama centers on a couple’s intense love affair — and it doesn’t shy away from graphic realism, as reported by the Irish Independent.

The film intersperses live concert scenes with unsimulated sex, making it a striking, emotionally raw depiction of physical intimacy. The lighting and pacing give it a stylized but deeply personal edge.

Nymphomaniac – Lars von Trier (2013)

Yes, von Trier is back. With a cast that includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, and Willem Dafoe, this film chronicles the erotic escapades of a self-described nymphomaniac, per the New Yorker.

Featuring p*rn doubles and emotionless, stark sex scenes, it strips away romance to reveal raw sexual psychology. One surreal sequence combines piano playing, wild animals, and graphic acts.

Enter the Void – Gaspar Noé (2009)

Another Noé creation, this psychedelic trip follows a dead drug dealer’s out-of-body experience in neon-soaked Tokyo.

Featuring Nathaniel Brown and Paz de la Huerta, the film includes a montage inside a love hotel with various unsimulated sex acts, and — in one unforgettable moment — the protagonist literally travels into a woman’s genitalia. Yes, really.

They Call Us Misfits – Stefan Jarl and Jan Lindqvist (1968)

The only documentary on this list, this Swedish film follows rebellious teens Kenneth "Kenta" Gustafsson and Gustav "Stoffe" Svensson.

Guinness World Records calls it the first film to “depict unsimulated sexual intercourse that managed to avoid getting those scenes censored.” It reflects 1960s gender politics and youth sexuality during a time of cultural upheaval.

Lie With Me – Clement Virgo (2005)

This Canadian erotic drama, based on the novel by Tamara Faith Berger, stars Lauren Lee Smith and Eric Balfour.

It explores a woman’s use of sex for power and connection, and how that control begins to unravel. Its sex scenes range from symbolic montages to deeply intense realism, portraying the transformation of desire and vulnerability.

Female Vampire – Jesús Franco (1973)

Lina Romay plays the titular vampire in this Euro-horror oddity. She’s bisexual, seductive, and feeds through oral stimulation — yes, that kind.

With a plot that's basically MIA, this film is pure transgressive erotica, considered revolutionary for blending horror, sexuality, and shock. Authentic sex scenes? You bet.

Destricted – Various Directors (2006)

An experimental anthology rather than a traditional film, Destricted fuses art with hardcore porn. Directed by heavyweights like Marina Abramović, Gaspar Noé, Larry Clark, and Sam Taylor-Wood, it’s raw, erotic, and intentionally boundary-breaking.

With no central narrative, it exists as a provocative exploration of sexual expression in the modern world.
