Zach Galifianakis - perhaps best known for his role in Hangover as the bearded nuisance Alan - has taken fans by surprise with a brand new look.

In a trailer for Apple TV+'s new biopic, The Beanie Bubble, 53-year-old Galifianakis reveals a clean-shaven look that is a far-cry from his "hungover" days.

The movie tells the story of Ty Warner, the tycoon behind Beanie Babies - the cuddly toys that became a cultural phenomenon around the world. The narrative also shines a light on "the unsung heroes whose names didn’t appear on the heart-shaped tag".

The trailer kickstarts with a captivating voiceover from Galifianakis, cast as Warner, posing the question: "Do you know what the greatest thing about America is?"

"You can make things happen here like nowhere else. You have the power to create your own future," he answers.

At the 13-second mark, viewers get their first glimpse of a freshly-shaven Galifianakis, as he passionately declares: "You can be anything! You can do anything!"

In a commendable show of commitment to his role, Galifianakis mirrors the real-life Ty Warner's clean-shaven appearance.

The trailer then pivots to a grim-faced executive asking: "You want to sell high-end stuffed Himalayan cats?" To which, Warner coolly responds: "Under-stuffed actually, for greater possibility."

Galifianakis, as Warner, is seen collaborating with his business partner Robbie - played by Elizabeth Banks - who confidently remarks: "We’re professionals. We’re giving the people what they need."

The rest of the trailer weaves through Warner's rollercoaster journey to fame and fortune, underscored by the tagline: "SEE THE CRAZY BEHIND THE CRAZE".

In response to the trailer, many of Galifianakis' fans have taken to Twitter to share their disbelief at the actor's new look.

"Mankind was not meant to see Zach Galifianakis without a beard," one person tweeted.

A second added: "Saw an ad for that beanie babies movie and.... So uh... Zach Galifianakis without his beard is...
Well it's not bad, but it sure is something."

"Seeing Zach Galifianakis without a beard has drastically impacted my day," a third tweeted, with another quipping: "I understand why Zach Galifianakis always has a beard now."

Others agreed that Galifianakis definitely suits his facial hair, as another Twitter user wrote: "Zach Galifianakis without a beard is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. No paycheck from apple would ever make me shave my beard like that."

Eager fans can catch The Beanie Bubble worldwide on Apple TV+ come July 28.
