It's official guys!

Freaky Friday will be returning for a sequel and both Lindsay Lohan, 36, and Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, are set to make their long-awaited return back to the big screen as mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman.

For those of you that have never seen the cult classic - first of all, where the hell have you been? - and secondly, it's about an overworked mother and her daughter who do not seem to understand each other at all.

However, when they switch bodies after eating a magical fortune cookie, they're both forced to adapt to the other's life for one freaky Friday - which ultimately makes them appreciate each other more.

Freaky Friday is based on a 1972 novel written by Mary Rodgers. The first adaptation of the film starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster and it became such a global hit that they re-made it in 1995 with Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmanit, and then again in 2003 with Curtis and Lohan, which amassed a whopping $22,203,007 just over the opening weekend.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, this also marks a momentous occasion for Lohan, who will be making her return to studio filmmaking after embarking on a smaller career comeback with a two-picture deal at Netflix. Over Christmas, we saw the former child star take on a leading role in the rom-com Falling for Christmas, which proved to be a hit with fans, but this upcoming sequel seems to be exciting them more.

"We WILL be watching," stressed one user.

"This is the best news I've had in weeks," added another.

And a third chimed in with: "The great Mom/grandma body swap sequel we’ve all been begging for."

The rumors first started circulating in February when Curtis, who recently won her first Oscar for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, posted a photo of her and Lohan on Instagram alongside a caption that teased the sequel.

"It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed," she wrote.

Then in an interview with Variety, the 64-year-old seemingly confirmed the news.

"It’s going to happen," she said at the Producers Guild Awards on February 26. "Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, 'Of course it’s going to happen.' It’s going to happen."

And Lohan also talked of her excitement at the prospect telling the New York Times that "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore."

So far, no further details surrounding the project have yet been revealed but it's all in the works!

I don't know about you, but we're incredibly excited!
