If you're in the mood for some serious nostalgia, then look no further than the fact that Lizzie McGuire is returning to our television screens - yes you heard that correctly, we've landed ourselves a 30-year-old Lizzie.

Hilary Duff announced the news at the Disney D23 Expo, where she appeared on stage to reveal that Lizzie is all grown up, and is a 30-year-old who lives and works in New York. That's some serious 13 Going On 30 vibes, right there.

Additionally, Terri Minsky, the original creator of the series, is reportedly returning as showrunner.

Hilary also took to Instagram to confirm the news, and shared an iconic throwback clip to boot. "SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl ♥️...and into her 30’s #bringbackbutterflyclips," she captioned the post.

While there's no further news on whether any other original cast members are returning, the actress did tease that it's a possibility when speaking to Entertainment Tonight after the announcement. "The whole cast is such a big part of the show and we have a lot of surprises in store for viewers," she disclosed.

"It feels very surreal, to be honest. I've been living with this information for a few months now, so it's been very hard to even contain my excitement," Hilary continued. "She's such a big part of me and my life, and now she's 30, and I feel like I'm going to have to learn some of her quirky faces again. But I'm excited!"

"I've been a big part of the process with Terri Minsky and the creative process of where [Lizzie's] been and where she's going and, really, it's a dream come true."

The reboot is expected to return in 2020 on Disney's new streaming service, Disney+, so I guess we all better get looking at subscription options...

The platform is reportedly launching in November in the US, and will have all of our favourite Disney films, including those of the Marvel Universe, as well as a slew of original programming, such as the Lizzie McGuire reboot.

Hilary Duff recently shared a touching video from her water birth:

Disney+ is expected to cost $6.99 (£5.50) a month.
