The trailer for the forthcoming horror comedy movie Cocaine Bear has been released - and there’s a good chance it'll be 2024's wildest movie.

On December 1, Universal Pictures unveiled the first look of the flick, which shows the wild animal going on a rampage in the woods and maliciously attacking the characters as they try to escape.

The bluntly-titled film was inspired by a true story that involves a failed drug smuggling plot in 1980s America - where a 175-lb black bear in north Georgia ingested a duffel bag of cocaine.

However, the part of the movie which sees the drug-fuelled animal embarking on a ferocious spree was not part of the real-life event.

One user hilariously wrote: "Love how this bear career is going in Hollywood. From Revenant to Prey now this movie. Give this bear an Oscar!"

Another delighted user remarked: "Looks insanely fun, I love these movies that don’t take themselves seriously, and the fact it’s based on a true story is hilarious."

And this enthusiastic user chimed in and commented: "This movie actually brings some horror b-movie vibes of the 1980s, gory and funny AF in that sense."

"And I'm surprised Ray Liotta made an appearance in this film before his passing. Also, the fact that Cocaine Bear is inspired by a true story, that's pretty hard to believe. Be definitely lookin forward to seeing this one in the theaters for real," they added.

Meanwhile, some people shared their divided responses to the trailer on Twitter, with many writing that while they are excited, they can't help but question the direction of the movie.

One person remarked: "Turning this into an action/comedy takes away all the intensity. A bear on cocaine is horrifying."

While another person also commented that the film looks "horrifying" but "hilarious,": "Bro I laughed way too much. What 'True events' inspired this anyone got the actual story? Am I f***ed for laughing? It's a bear, and the bear did cocaine. Horrifying yet hilarious. Peak cinema."

A fourth user said: "Don't like that movie paints cocaine bear as a villain. Cocaine bear is a victim. Bears ain't supposed to have cocaine they're supposed to have salmon."

And to top it off, Elon Musk, the platform's newest owner, also jumped in to share his thoughts on the trailer and wrote: "Always wondered about that bear …"

The movie stars the late Goodfellas actor Jay Liotta, The American actress Keri Russell, The Watcher actress Margo Martindale, Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich, Straight Outta Compton actor O'Shea Jackson Jr, and Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Other actors such as Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, and Brooklynn Prince, will star as well as newcomer Scott Seiss - who went viral for his "Angry Retail Guy" sketches on TikTok.

The film is one of Liotta's final acting roles and is the first to be released following his death in May this year.

Cocaine Bear will be released in theaters on February 23, 2023.
