A judge has rejected Britney Spears' plea to remove herself from her father's conservatorship.

Per The Guardian, Judge Brenda Penny refused to absolve Jamie Spears from his position as her conservator, despite the musician's allegations of sustained abuse on his part.

However, court documents filed on Wednesday, June 30, show that Judge Penny agreed to the Bessemer Trust's role as co-conservator of the Spears' multi-million dollar estate.

Judge Penny also ended a scheme allowing the media to listen to court proceedings remotely, after her testimony leaked to the press.

Per the above publication, the documents state: "The conservatee’s request to suspend James P Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company Of California, NA as sole conservator of [the] estate is denied without prejudice."

The singer's lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III first asked a Los Angeles court to end her father's 13-year-long control of her estate in November of 2020.

Jamie Spears assumed full responsibility for his daughter's financial affairs back in 2008 following the star's highly-publicized mental health struggles.

The 39-year-old previously made a number of disturbing allegations regarding her father's conduct in a virtual court appearance Wednesday, June 23.

Spears stated that she had been left traumatized, accusing her father of drugging her with lithium, forcing her to work long hours without rest, and denying her the ability to have more children.

According to a transcript of her allegations published by Variety, Spears stated: "The control he had over someone as powerful as me, as he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000%. He loved it.

"I packed my bags and went to that place. I worked seven days a week, no days off, which in California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking."

She added: "I am not happy, I can't sleep. I'm so angry, it's insane. And I'm depressed. The last time I spoke to you [the judge]… made me feel like I was dead.

"I am telling you again because I am not lying. So maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages. I deserve changes."

In response, Jamie Spears' lawyer told People magazine: "Britney knows that her daddy loves her and that he will be there for her whenever and if she needs him, just as he always has been - conservatorship or not."
