Britney Spears has claimed that she was "forced to take Lithium" as a "punishment" under her conservatorship.

The singer, 39, made the shocking revelation to a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday, June 23, and said that the drug left her feeling "drunk", per Independent.

The Sun reports that the singer was put on the drug "out of nowhere".

She said: "Lithium is very very strong, it’s a completely different medication to what I was used to. You can go mentally impaired if you take too much or stay on it longer than five months.

"I felt drunk, I really couldn't even [look after myself], I couldn't even have a conversation with my mom and dad really about anything."

"I am traumatized," she said, speaking to the court remotely. "I just want my life back."

However, this is not the only thing that Britney claims she was forced to do during her conservatorship, and she also said she was prevented from having another child.

"I want to be able to get married and have a baby," Spears said, per Independent. "I have an IUD inside of myself so that I don't get pregnant, but [my team doesn't] want me to have any more children."

The 'Toxic' singer went on to candidly detail the effect that such restrictions have had on her mental health.

She said: "I am not happy, I can't sleep. I'm so angry, it's insane. And I'm depressed. The last time I spoke to you [the judge]… made me feel like I was dead. I am telling you again because I am not lying… so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages… I deserve changes."

The singer's father, Jamie, who has controlled her conservatorship since 2008, said that he was "sorry" to hear how much his daughter claims to have suffered.

"He is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain," the statement read. "Mr Spears loves his daughter very much."

"Any time Britney wants to end her conservatorship, she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it; she has always had this right but in 13 years has never exercised it," Vivian Lee Thoreen, a lawyer for Mr Spears, said in a statement to People Magazine earlier in 2021.

"Britney knows that her daddy loves her, and that he will be there for her whenever and if she needs him, just as he always has been - conservatorship or not."
