Kirsten Dunst has recalled starring opposite Brad Pitt as an 11-year-old in the movie Interview with the Vampire.

The 1994 film was Dunst's first major break in her acting career before becoming a celebrated actress in Hollywood.

And the young actress was certainly thrust into the spotlight surrounded by some of Hollywood's finest, as the movie also starred Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Thandiwe Newton, and Brad Pitt - the latter of whom she shared a kiss with in the movie.

Addressing the kiss in an interview with Vanity Fair, Dunst reflected on how she felt "very weird" kissing Pitt as a child.

In the movie, Dunst's character is changed into a vampire at a young age. She has both a close bond with Pitt's character, and at one point gives him a kiss on the mouth - which Dunst now describes as a "peck".

Pitt was around 30 years old when the movie was filmed.

"At that point, I was a little girl, and he was like a brother to me," Dunst said. "And it was very weird even though it was a peck. I was just very not into it. Other than that I was treated like a total princess on that set."

This isn't the first time Dunst has expressed dissatisfaction with the movie's kiss.

On the film's 25th anniversary, Entertainment Tonight found footage of Dunst talking about the kiss when she was 12 years old.

"I hated it so much," Dunst said back at the time. "Brad was like my older brother on the set and it's kinda like kissing your older brother. I don't know. It was weird kissing an older guy. And I had to kiss him on the lips so it was gross."

The outlet showed Dunst the old footage while she was on a 2019 press tour.

"They were so sweet to me," Dunst said after watching herself back. "That production, that film, was like nothing else I've ever experienced."

Despite the divisive scene, Dunst delivered an incredible performance in the movie for such a young actress, and was even nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

The 41-year-old star has also recently revealed the reason why she hasn't acted since The Power Of The Dog - a psychological drama she co-starred with her husband Jesse Plemons - despite it garnering critical success.

The Power Of The Dog was released in 2021, but we've not seen the acclaimed actress on our screens since then.

"Every role I was being offered was the sad mom," a frustrated Dunst disclosed to Marie Claire.

"To be honest, that's been hard for me... Because I need to feed myself," she said of her reluctant break from Hollywood. "The hardest thing is being a mom and...not feeling like I have nothing for myself. That's every mother - not just me," adding: "There's definitely less good roles for women my age."

When questioned if she "already" feels the impact of ageism in Hollywood, the Elizabethtown actress responded: "Yes. That's why I did Civil War."

In Dunst's latest movie - which is written and directed by Alex Garland - she stars as a photojournalist in a near-future dystopia where the United States has been torn apart under the authoritarian rule of a three-term president, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
