Lisa Bonet has filed for divorce from her estranged husband Jason Momoa almost two years after they announced their initial separation.

On Monday, Bonet filed documents in Los Angeles County court to officially bring her relationship with the Aquaman star to a close.

The 56-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the couple’s divorce and listed their date of separation as October 7, 2020.

Bonet also requested joint legal and physical custody of the pair's children, daughter Lola, 16, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 15, as stated in the documents. Other details include no spousal support on either side as well as a private agreement between the two actors about the distribution of their other personal and joint assets.

The news comes after the pair announced their amicable separation in a joint statement posted to Momoa's Instagram account back in January 2022, after 16 years together.

"We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times," said the couple, who officially tied the knot in October 2017. "A revolution is unfolding ~ and our family is of no exception... feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring."

Momoa and Bonet stated that they chose to announce their split "not because we think it’s newsworthy," but so that "as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty."

"The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived," they added before concluding: "We free each other to be who we are learning to become. Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what’s possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail."

The post has since been deleted.

Speaking during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017, Momoa recalled his first date with Bonet back in 2005 after the pair were introduced by a mutual friend.

"We just happened to be in the right place at the right time," he said.

“I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, 'I’m Lisa.' I turned around to my friend and I [pretended to scream]. I had f****** fireworks going off inside, man," he continued. "I convinced her to take me home, because I was living in a hotel."

The pair wound up spending time together at Cafe 101 in New York City.

"We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it," he added. "I beyond love Guinness. We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history."

Two years later they welcomed their first child and then the following year their second, before officially tying the knot in 2017.

However, just three years later, the pair separated and are now in the process of officially ending their relationship.
