Mario Kart is being released on Android and iOS next month

Are you riddled with nostalgia for a time when games were more about beating up evil turtles than shooting innocent civilians? Do you get weak at the knees every time you imagine a mustachioed Italian plumber and his brother? Then boy, do we have some exciting news for you!

According to a statement from Japanese gaming pioneers Nintendo, one of their most famous creations is making the leap to an even smaller screen, as the company prepares to make Mario Kart available on cell phones.

In a Twitter announcement, Nintendo revealed that the game, christened 'Mario Kart Tour', is going to drop on September 25 for both iOS and Android, meaning that a whole new generation of gamers can get ready to let rip around the Mushroom Kingdom.

Captioning a poster revealing the September release date, alongside images of what one assumes will be part of the cast of playable characters, the official Mario Kart Tour Twitter account advised fans to, "Buckle up, because we have a lot of information to share as we race towards launch!"

The poster itself, which featured fan favorites Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Toad, and Princess Peach, was soon followed by a promotional video containing some tantalizing tidbits about the gameplay.

The Twitter account added: "In the game, you'll find some stiff competition and a diverse array of courses" - news that will doubtless excite many longtime fans of the series.

As many interested in mobile gaming will know, the launch of Mario Kart Tour has been beset by difficulties. Originally slated for release in March 2019, the game has suffered a number of setbacks which have forced Nintendo to delay plans. The news that everything has finally been ironed out will doubtless come as a relief to fans.

Of course, with a series such as Mario Kart, some fans have very strong feelings on who or what should be included in the game. Taking to Twitter, Super Smash Bros enthusiast @SmashMatt02 wrote:

"Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wario, Waluigi, Daisy, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Birdo, Toadette, and Rosalina better all be characters before I see another baby or metal character. Would mind also seeing Pauline at some point."

The game may be causing some serious excitement, but that will only mean that the pressure is on for it to deliver.
