Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to join a list of big names in a fundraising concert calling for equality of the coronavirus vaccine.

The pair - who stepped back from senior royal duties last year - will join headline act Jennifer Lopez and host Selena Gomez at the event next month.

Meghan and Harry will serve as the Campaign Chairs of Global Citizen to deliver vaccines to medical workers in the world’s poorest countries, the Metro reports.

A statement on the event's official website reads: "We are calling on world leaders to step up to make sure vaccines are accessible for all so we can end the pandemic for everyone, everywhere."

It will be their first public appearance since their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired worldwide last month.

The concert - titled 'Global Citizen’s Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World' - is set to be broadcast out of Los Angeles on May 8 and will see an array of stars take to the stage in a bid to raise money for the cause.

The pair are expected to deliver a global message calling for vaccine equity in the latest efforts to ensure equal access to the vaccine regardless of financial status.

In a statement on their website, Meghan and Harry said:

"Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle—together. Now we need to recover and heal—together. We can’t leave anybody behind.

"We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine.

"We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important."

The former Royals are also leading efforts to raise money for the vaccine-sharing program COVAX, which hopes to produce $19 billion to pay for the vaccines for medical workers.

Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King, and Jimmy Kimmel and actors Ben Affleck, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn, and Sean Penn are also set to take turns to host throughout the night.
