In the new tell-all Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan, the 41-year-old former actress has opened up about what the "biggest problem" was with her that ended up causing a lot more drama than expected...
The highly-anticipated docuseries delves into the events that led to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relinquishing their royal titles and eventually leaving the United Kingdom altogether.
Speaking of the series, which is now available to watch on Netflix, the streaming platform said: "Harry and Meghan is an unprecedented six-part documentary series that explores the span of their relationship, from the early days of the couple’s courtship to the challenges and controversies that prompted them to step back from the royal family."
And now, we're getting answers straight from the couple themselves.
During the second episode of the series, Harry recalls the first time his family met Meghan, stating that they were "impressed" due to her beauty and intelligence. He even adds that some of them didn't know "what to do with themselves", before letting out a hearty chuckle.
However, that didn't mean they didn't have reservations about their relationship.
"The fact that I was dating an American actress was probably what clouded their judgment more than anything else in the beginning," the 38-year-old Duke said. "'Oh she's an American actress, this won't last.'"
"The actress thing was the biggest problem, [funnily] enough," added Meghan. "There's a big idea [of] what that looks like from the UK standpoint.
"Hollywood and... it's just very easy for them to typecast that," she admitted.
Meghan's career in the world of acting has been a talking point of her entire royal relationship, with many questioning if she was the right fit for such a "prestigious" position after appearing on TV in some compromising roles - which included a brief stint in American TV series, 90210, where she was scripted to perform a sexual act on a male character.
Meghan's former agent, Nick Collins, said that early on in her career, the Suits star had to start from the bottom and work her way up through auditions.
"It was very, very hard on your confidence to be an auditioning actor especially when you don't fit into any box," the Duchess said. "When you hear 'no' all the time, you go 'What's wrong with me?' I'm not good enough for this or this or this,' and it triggers the same stuff for me when I was a kid - it's like 'where do I fit in?'"
The first three episodes of Harry and Meghan are now available to watch on Netflix, with the final three set to arrive on December 15.
