Last week's vice presidential debate had an accidental star: the fly who landed on Mike Pence's head.

Now the current Vice President has spoken out about the bug which inspired countless memes and even prompted Joe Biden to pose with a fly swatter after the debate.

The former Vice President took to Twitter and shared an image of himself with his 10 million followers. The picture shows Biden playfully holding a flyswatter, along with a link to the donation page of his campaign, which he captioned: "Pitch in $5 to help this campaign fly. [sic]"

The fly sat on the Vice President's head for an impressive two minutes and nine seconds while he was in the process of debating with his rival candidate Kamala Harris in Salt Lake City.

"I didn't know he was there," Pence told Fox News host Dana Perino in a Columbus Day interview from Ohio, per the New York Post.

Pence, who has three children, said they were the ones to inform him about the fly after the debate.

"They all told me, 'Dad, you did okay', but they did tell me about the fly. It was a good laugh for all of us," Pence said.

As per a POLITICO/Morning Consult flash poll conducted last Thursday, 62% of debate watchers and non-watchers heard or read about the fly more than any other moment of the debate.

During the October 7 debate, the two candidates were separated by plexiglass after President Trump tested positive for Covid-19.

Prior to the November 3 election, a final vice presidential debate is scheduled to take place next week in Nashville, Tenessee.

Tump and Biden were scheduled to have another debate on Thursday in Miami, but the Commission on President Debates canceled the event after Trump refused to allow it to take place virtually.
