It's a fact that this year's MTV Video Music Awards have been just as exciting and glamorous as they always are. In the wake of her breakup with Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus delivered a powerful vocal performance of her latest breakup track. Then John Travolta made an unfortunate faux pas, after mistaking a drag queen for Taylor Swift.

But one of the highlights of the awards show was Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's steamy performance of 'Señorita', which had spectators pretty hot under the collar, and even managed to make none other than Joe Jonas grin from ear-to-ear.

Performing on a stage lit with gold lights, Mendes and Cabello almost kissed on multiple occasions, but instead pulled away at the last moment. Although they didn't actually lock lips, they did sing with their backs to each another, and later held hands as they left the stage.

On Twitter later, a number of social media users later pointed out that the Jonas Brother had a huge smile on his face as the pair finished the song, and some people thought that Joe's reaction to the duet was too relatable for words. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

The performance has helped repair some of the damage to Mendes' reputation, which recently took a hit after fans unearthed tweets that were deemed to be racially insensitive.

The incident occurred when Mendes was attending a Q&A session, and an African-American fan brought up a tweet of Mendes' in which he appeared to have used the N-word to refer to a close acquaintance. The fan stated: "We just kind of want to know why [he said it] because we get a lot of hate for supporting you, knowing that this is your past."

Mendes responded: "A lot of things just need to be moved on from."

He added: "But I also think that the things that [you] saw, like I had friends when I was 14 who would like take my phone and post things of them because they thought it was funny that I had like 2,000 followers and it was this big thing."

He continued: 'They'd post photos of themselves and at the time I was just like not thinking about it. I had no idea I was going to have 50 million followers, which doesn't make it any better. But yeah, totally, I apologize for everything insensitive I said in the past, but with that being said yeah I think that's not my personality [sic]."

However, this isn't the only awesome performance we've seen. Check out Missy Elliot's incredible live show as well.
