A series of text messages which purportedly show metal icon Marilyn Manson body-shaming Lana Del Rey has sparked a furious backlash from social media users this week.
The messages in question were uploaded to Instagram by actress Annie Abrams, one of many women who have accused Manson of abusive past behavior.
Abrams shared three screenshots which she purports are from a prior correspondence she had with Manson himself.
In them, Manson comments on a picture of the signer by calling her "Lasagna Del Rey" and saying that he "dodged a bullet there."
Manson then asks Abrams to send him the mug shots of his assistant Ashley Walters, as well as Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco, who Manson apparently claims wrecked his car in an accident in Europe.
Although it has not been verified that the messages were in fact from Manson, a number of social media users have since reacted with outrage to his alleged body-shaming of Del Rey.
For instance, one Twitter user wrote: "lasagna del rey" is he 14???? [sic]"
Another person wrote: "Seeing s*** heads like Marilyn Manson mocking Lana Del Rey’s weight gain reinforces the fact that women learn from an early age to hate their body."
A third person commented: "I'm a day late to this but Marilyn Manson having a go at Lana Del Rey for putting some weight on is an incredible glass houses moment."
Meanwhile, someone else chimed in: "this... THING body shamed Lana Del Rey?? PLS... Sir you look like a monster.. Marilyn Manson got me f***ed up [sic]"
Another wrote: "not Marilyn Manson body shaming Lana del Rey when he looks like that [sic]"
Finally, another person commented: "So Marilyn Manson body-shamed Lana Del Rey? That should really work out for him, all things considered, these days."
The scandal of Manson's alleged behavior broke on Monday, January 1, when 33-year-old Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood - who dated Manson for several years - shared an official statement with her 911,000 Instagram followers.
In it, Wood wrote:
"The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson.
"He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.
"I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him before he ruins more lives.
"I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent."
Manson himself denied the allegations in an official statement addressed to his own 3.6 million followers on Instagram, writing: "Obviously, my life and my art have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality.
"My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth."
VT has contacted Manson for comment.
