It was the Grammy Awards last night, which meant some big wins, disappointing losses, hilarious moments, and of course, some awkwardness too. As with all ceremonies like this, there's going to be at least a little bit of drama to go with the celebrations, and the 2019 Grammys were no different.
Lady Gaga had a big night for a variety of reasons. At the Grammys, she was nominated for four awards, and that wasn't even the only ceremony she was invited to that night. She let Bradley Cooper go in her stead to represent A Star Is Born at the BAFTAs the same night, and ended up being awarded alongside Cooper and Lukas Nelson for Best Original Music.
“I can’t believe we just won Best Original Music @BAFTA ‘s . I wish so much I was there but am at the Grammy’s to show them our love as well," she wrote on Twitter. “We made a film about music. This means the world to me.”
Back at the Grammys, she was was nominated for even more awards, landing a win for both Best Solo Performance and Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance. That wasn't the only reason she was so memorable that evening, however.
For one, she took to the stage to perform a rendition of Shallow from A Star Is Born, a song that while usually a fairly low-key duet, was instead a powerhouse performance by the star in full glam rock gear. It was pretty polarising for those watching, but definitely turned some heads. But that wasn't the only potential awkwardness of the evening for Gaga.
Before the night gets started, there's always the red carpet, in which the world's biggest stars arrive in a huge range of expensive (and sometimes strange) outfits made by the world's most influential designers. One by one, they're interviewed by the likes of Ryan Seacrest, who called her over for a quick word on behalf of E! As many pointed out after watching, it wasn't the most comfortable interview in the world, thanks to some awkward spots in the conversation.
The official upload captured only part of the conversation, but there was definitely some questionable moments afterwards. One user shared part of the interview where Seacrest made a statement, then handed Gaga the mic, at which point she stared back at him and said, "You didn't ask me a question."
At the end of the interview they made a joke about the awkwardness, in a moment where Gaga is either genuinely shocked, or plays up the comedy of the moment perfectly.
Regardless of how it ended, most people weren't happy with the host for his interview skills.
While this was definitely a little awkward, I'm sure she didn't mind - and is much more worried about where to store all those Grammys now her awards cabinet is undoubtedly full to the brim.
