It's only been 24 hours since we heard that Hollywood's most eligible bachelor is well and truly out of the game and things are now taking a turn for the awkward on social media.
Reports of Chris Evans' tying the knot with his partner Alba Baptista first started circling on Sunday night, but by Monday morning, the news was officially confirmed by PEOPLE, who stated that the two actors said "I do" in Massachusetts at their Boston home in what has been described as an "intimate" ceremony.
Page Six also claimed the ceremony was "locked down tight," as guests were made to sign non-disclosure agreements before attending the event.
The actors invited a bunch of their friends from the industry to also be at the nuptials including the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan Downey, Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, and Jeremy Renner, plus John Krasinski and Emily Blunt came to support their friends as they made their life-long commitment to each other.
While the fan reaction started off pretty tame on social media with people expressing their overwhelming hurt at the fact that Evans - who has no idea who they are - is now officially off the market, things have now taken a turn for the... awkward.
And that's putting it lightly.
It seems as though a handful of fans had no idea that Evans was even dating, let alone planning his literal wedding in a matter of a few months, but now some people are pointing out the massive age gap between Evans and his wife.
Evans, who turned 42 in June, married Baptista, who is 26.
I mean, we've seen this sort of thing before though so it's not really that surprising but I guess given Evans' pretty good track record at dating women his own age, this might be considered "out of the ordinary" for him.
Many took to Twitter, now known as X now, to discuss the issue.
"That 16 yr age gap would've been ON EVERY SINGLE HEADLINE IF IT WASNT CHRIS EVANS I SAID WHAT I SAID," wrote one user who also clarified their point in a separate tweet, writing: "It's only justified bc he's like famous and like 'hot' BC 16 YR AGE GAP WOULDVE BEEN THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION IF THAT MAN WASNT CHRIS EVANS."
"You people are defending Chris Evans and saying she’s grown but let it be Leornado decaprio [sic], y’all will understand why a 16 year old age difference is weird. Y’all need to pick a side and stick to it," added another.
A third also held a similar perspective, writing: "I want to see the same energy Joe Jonas got for the age gap with Sophie Turner towards 42 year old Chris Evans marrying a 26 year old."
And this user didn't hold back, describing the gap as "gross" saying: "16 year age gaps are gross. Even if you’re Chris Evans."
However, it seems as though the pair remain unbothered about the opinions of the general public, keeping their relationship out of the public eye.
The most we've ever got from them is an iconic montage of clips to celebrate the new year which shows the pair jump scaring each other as "pranks."
However, sources close to the Captain America star have revealed that the pair are happy with each other telling PEOPLE back in November 2022 that the actors were "in love and Chris has never been happier," before adding: "His family and friends all adore her."
