Ralph Fiennes's performance in The Menu has been met with widespread praise, and some fans have even gone so far as claiming he should win an Oscar for his starring role.

The Menu features a host of well-known stars such as Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit), Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies), and John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge!).

The thriller centers around a very exclusive restaurant that only seats 12 diners, and is only accessible via boat due to it being on a private island.

The guests include those you would expect to find at a very up-market establishment such as an actor, a trio of unlikeable financial businessmen, a wealthy couple, a food critic, and an obsessed foodie.

As with every good thriller, the narrative is full of twists and turns with a constant feeling of unease right from the very first moment.

The movie - although completely bizarre - includes themes that resonate with some viewers such as the feeling of hopelessness when it comes to career choices.

Fiennes plays the lead antagonist and his subtle yet captivating performance is, for a lot of viewers, the standout of the feature.

His character, chef Slowik, takes the diners through an evening of many courses, each more chaotic than the last. A world-renowned chef facing the demons of his past and those who have caused him to despise the job he was once passionate about makes for a bloody and explosive night.

The 60-year-old actor's performance was so expertly executed that many have called for Fiennes to win this year's best actor award at the Oscars.

One person took to Twitter and wrote: "You know what would be a cool surprise Best Actor Oscar nomination? Ralph Fiennes for The Menu. It’s been days and I can’t get his memorably wicked performance out of my head. He’s incredible in the role, the movie’s great, and he hasn’t received an Oscar nod since 1997. Why not?"

A second person said: "I believe the actor Ralph Fiennes deserves deserves to win an @TheAcademy  by The Menu (2022). One of his best performances since Schindler's List (1993). Ralph Fiennes have to earn a Oscar nomined for The Menu (2022). His acting in this film is brilliant! [sic]."

Others agreed with the claim, stating: "The Menu is one of my favorite films of the last decade. Ralph Fiennes deserves an oscar. Holy s*** seeing your passion and love of what you do be abused and p****d on. Seeing it all twist up in obsession and madness. And that spark of joy remembered at the end?"

His performance was certainly one of the highlights of the already brilliant movie, and it resulted in him getting nominated for a Golden Globe.

Some people have referred to The Menu as the best movie they've ever seen, or at least the best horror that's hit screens within the last decade.

It's available to watch on Disney+ and we highly recommend it!
