Paris Hilton has come under fire from the animal rights organization PETA after she purchased a new chihuahua puppy instead of adopting it from a shelter.

Earlier this week, the 41-year-old heiress took to her social media page to share the news of her precious new addition to her family.

This came just a few months after she tragically announced the death of her beloved chihuahua named Harajuku B***h, who lived to the impressive age of 23.

At the time, she shared a statement to her 24.1 Instagram followers that read: "Today, my heart breaks as I say goodbye to my precious chihuahua, Harajuku B***h. For an incredible 23 years, she filled my life with so much love, loyalty, and unforgettable moments."

"She lived a long, beautiful, and iconic life, surrounded by love until her final peaceful slumber," Hilton continued. "Words cannot express the immense pain I’m feeling right now. She was more than just a pet; she was family to me, a loyal friend who was always by my side through every twist and turn life brought my way.

"Rest peacefully, my sweet darling. Thank you for blessing my life with your unconditional love. You will forever be my little angel, forever missed, and forever loved," she added in her tribute post.

In honor of her late pet, the socialite announced on her social media on Thursday (July 6) that she had welcomed a new puppy to her home - one which was related to Harajuku B***h.

She uploaded a short video of her new dog - which she is yet to name - for her followers and penned in the caption: "Absolutely in love with my new puppy! He is so adorable and sweet!

"So special that he's actually related to my angel Harajuku B**** who passed earlier this year. It's like having a little piece of her still here with me," she added.

But, the animal rights organization is not pleased with the way in which Hilton added to her family, to the point where they decided to plaster ads across Los Angeles to protest her choice.

"The posters will be pointing out that Paris has overlooked millions of lovable homeless dogs in U.S. shelters while pimping for the pet-breeding industry," Moira Colley, a representative for PETA, told DailyMail. "PETA hopes our street art blitz will remind every celebrity to lead by example and adopt, never shop."

In addition to this, another spokesperson blasted the hotel heiress in a statement to TMZ which read: "Paris Hilton has apparently been living under a rock for the past decade because a day in an animal shelter would have shown her just how many Chihuahuas already need homes, and five minutes on Petfinder would turn up thousands more, including puppies.

"PETA knows that retail therapy is what Paris Hilton loves best, but we're asking her to keep the shopping to baubles and bags," they concluded.

The heiress is yet to respond publicly to PETA's statements.
