Prince Harry has compared the scrutiny of his and Meghan's relationship with that of his late mother Princess Diana - who died while she was in a relationship with a person of color.

In his new bombshell docuseries The Me You Can't See, which explores the topic of mental health, the 36-year-old father implied the harassment he and Meghan were facing from the media could be fatal for his wife.

In the interview with Oprah Winfrey, featured in the Apple TV series, the Duke of Sussex compared his relationship with Meghan - who is mixed race - with his mother's relationship with her Egyptian partner Dodi Al-Fayed.

He said per the Independent: "History was repeating itself. My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone that wasn't white. And now look what’s happened. You wanna talk about history repeating itself, they’re not gonna stop until she dies."

Harry's mother died on August 31, 1997, alongside her movie producer boyfriend Al-Fayed, the son of billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. The couple tragically succumbed to the injuries they sustained in a car cash in Paris while being chased by paparazzi.

The Duke spoke about some of the racially charged language being used to describe his relationship with Meghan very early on in their relationship.

He recalled: "Within the first eight days of our relationship being made public was when they said, 'Harry’s girl almost straight outta Compton.' And that her exotic DNA will be thickening the royal blood. We would get followed, photographed, chased, harassed."

The treatment of Meghan in the media as well as the lack of "support" she felt by the royal institution became too much for the former Suits actress to handle.

The doting husband went on to say that one of his biggest regrets, where Meghan is concerned was "not making more of a stance earlier on in my relationship with my wife and calling out the racism when I did".

He continued: "Eventually when I made that decision [to step down as senior royal] for my family, I was still told you can’t do this. And it’s like: 'Well how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?' She was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that."
