Rihanna has found herself in hot water after reportedly casting Johnny Depp in her upcoming Savage X Fenty fashion show, which is set to premiere next week.

CNN reported that despite the 59-year-old actor not debuting in the trailer or any of the press materials that came with the show, sources have confirmed directly to the outlet that he will be making an appearance at some point in the program. TMZ was one of the first outlets to report the news.

Upon hearing the news, some fans turned on the 'Unfaithful' singer, slamming her for including the Pirates of the Caribbean star as part of the project - five months after a Virginia jury awarded him more than $10 million in damages in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Some even went as far as threatening to boycott her entire lingerie brand.

However, other fans came to her defense, speculating about the reasons behind the contentious decision.

"Just a reminder that Johnny Depp and Rihanna are survivors of domestic violence," one Twitter user said.

An account titled Stand By Johnny also alluded to the same idea, tweeting: "The fact that it was Rihanna who wanted to work with Johnny tells you everything you need to know."

Comments under the tweet later confirmed its somewhat ambiguous stance, with the statement "a survivor knows a survivor."

These tweets are likely alluding to the fact that Rihanna has previously spoken out about the abuse she suffered during her relationship with singer Chris Brown in 2009. During one altercation, Rihanna was left hospitalized with facial injuries - with Brown later pleading guilty to one count of felony assault.

The news comes after the highly-publicized defamation trial between Depp and his former wife, Amber Heard, came to an end on June 1.

And although the jury sided with Depp in the case, it seems that many are still struggling to see Depp in a positive light following the accusations and evidence highlighted in the case.

Despite months passing since then, the internet still hasn't come to terms with the verdict and any news involving either party involved become a hot talking point online.

In the same week that Heard subsequently removed herself from Twitter, it appears as though Depp is looking to move forward with his latest venture into the world of Savage X Fenty.

Hailed as one of the "fashion experiences" of the year, the Savage x Fenty show is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on November 9 featuring a range of iconic stars including Irina Shayk, Cara Delevingne, Simon Liu, Precious Lee, and Bella Poarch.

Fans will also be treated to some star-studded performances from the likes of Anitta and Burna Boy during the 4th volume of the glitzy event.
