Brett Favre claims that transgender athletes shouldn't be allowed to compete in the Olympics games as women.

According to Insider, the 51-year-old the Hall of Fame NFL quarterback spoke out against multiple athletes competing in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics during his podcast Bolling with Favre on Tuesday, June 22.

Commenting on New Zealand's selection of transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard in the women's weightlifting contest, Favre stated: "It's a man competing as a woman. That's unfair."

He continued:

"It's not fair for a man, even if this person wants to be a woman or feels compelled - if you want to become the opposite sex, that's fine. I got no problem with it. But you can't compete against - males cannot compete against females.

"If I was a true female - I can't believe I'm saying that - and I was competing in weightlifting and lost to this person, I would be beside myself."

Per New York Post, the 43-year-old previously competed in men's weightlifting before transitioning to female.

Hubbard transitioned in her 30s and only became eligible to compete in the Olympics as a woman after her testosterone levels had dropped below a certain required threshold.

She won two golds and a silver medal in three of the women's heavyweight categories at the Pacific Games in Samoa back in 2019.

Commenting on her selection in an official statement, Hubbard said: "I am grateful and humbled by the kindness and support that has been given to me by so many New Zealanders.

"Your support, your encouragement, and your aroha (love) carried me through the darkness."

However, the decision has been criticized by some commentators, with journalist and former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan slamming Hubbard's selection as a "terrible mistake."

In a scathing opinion piece in the MailOnline, Morgan wrote: "The uncomfortable irrefutable truth is that this decision is a disaster for women's sport.

"By supposedly promoting 'equality' with the inclusion of a transgender weightlifter, the Olympics have created a shocking new inequality - and everyone with half a brain knows it."

Morgan added: "Women born to female biological bodies are at a massive disadvantage to transgender women like Laurel Hubbard born to male biological bodies."
