When it comes to martial arts, it seems that anything can happen in the cage. When you have two large men beating seven shades of hell out of each other in front of a live audience, it's inevitable that nasty injuries will happen. In fact, sometimes a fighter's pride can end up more damaged than their body.

If you want an example of this kind of accident, then just check out the following mortifying footage of an MMA fight gone VERY wrong. Over the weekend, Bellator 223 took place in London, with a preliminary matchup between Brazilian Jorge Kanella and Londoner Alfie Davis.

Davis and Kanella were sparring, when Kanella aimed a kick at Davis' rear as he was sprawled on the ground. Unfortunately, Kanella's big toe ended up getting jabbed between his opponent's butt cheeks. Needless to say, Davis looked rather uncomfortable with the situation - but unfortunately for him, a video of the embarrassing incident soon started cropping up all over social media.

It was an... interesting match:

Referee Kevin MacDonald spotted the foul, halted the fight and penalized Kanella for his infraction, deducting a point from him. Although Davis had been kicked up the backside, he later went on to win the fight, earning scores of 29-27 on all three cards.

Commenting on the match in a later interview with MMA Junkie, Davis stated: "It was like, the bum, right at the bottom of the balls. If you’re standing up with someone on the floor, you do not go straight line like that. You’re never taught that because it’s a foul. … It slid up. So when I stood up, it was right in the gooch."

He added: "It’s normally pleasurable for a man, isn’t it? The gooch. We all enjoy the gooch, but not when you’re getting kicked straight in it."

I know some coaches like to give their champs a metaphorical kick up the butt to motivate them, but this video should remind us all that it definitely isn't meant to be taken literally!
