WWE legend and Executive Vice President Triple H may be a few years removed from his wild days in D-Generation X, but that hasn't stopped the now-senior member of the pro-wrestling company from making some off-color remarks.

Triple H - real name Paul Levesque - recently spoke with members of the wrestling media to promote last Sunday’s WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II event. But when asked about the chances of former WWE Superstars Edge (Adam Copeland) or Paige (Saraya-Jade Bevis) returning to the ring, Triple H replied:

"I’d love to see [Edge or Paige] step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that, though, I’d like to see them live long and healthy lives. Edge has kids. You know, Paige maybe — she probably has some she doesn’t know of. [Laughter] Their health comes first. They’re people first. This is all great but, at the end of the day, it’s not everything."

Paige answers whether or not she'll be back in the ring anytime soon:

(Both Paige and Edge were forced to retire from in-ring competition as a result of serious neck injuries.)

However, Triple H's joke did not go down well with Paige, other wrestlers, or her fans.

Paige - who had private explicit videos and pictures leaked online by hackers in 2017 - replied to the comment on Twitter, saying: "Even my boss jokes about me.. no wonder you guys still do it too."

WWE commentator and reporter Renee Young said on Twitter: "Big love to Paige. She’s been to hell and back but still some people wanna make jokes. We need (and she deserves) real change."

Former WWE Superstars and stars of Total Bellas, The Bella Twins, tweeted: "We will never see the true change in equality if we just see them as storylines. Change in a company starts from the top. Our leaders help set the example. For us women we need all the help we can get. Help with respect from our co workers and fans. We are all one. One love"

And current WWE Superstar Nia Jax replied to Paige's tweet, saying: "You’re amazing sis! I love you"

Paige’s boyfriend - singer-songwriter Ronnie Radke - also replied to the comment in a now-deleted tweet, which read: "It’s f**k @TripleH all 2020."

The 14-time world champion has since taken to his official Twitter account where he publicly apologized to Paige for the joke, along with anybody else he may have offended:

"I’ve reached out to @RealPaigeWWE to apologize. I made a terrible joke and I’m sorry if it offended her or anyone else."

Paige is yet to provide an update on the situation, but this morning she did share an image of her with Triple H's wife Stephanie McMahon prior to a UK television interview:
