Seventeen years after The Holiday was released, a sequel for the feel-good Christmas rom-com has been reported to be in the works.

Back in 2006, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law all came together to star in the box office hit that has become a staple seasonal viewing.

Since the original's release, fans have wondered what would have happened between the movie's characters Amanda (Cameron) and Graham (Jude) and Iris (Kate) and Miles (Jack) all these years on.

Well, a source has recently informed The Sun that the cast of the beloved flick is expected to reunite to make a second movie - almost two decades on from the original.

The insider claims that the "main talent" - including the 47-year-old Titanic star and the 50-year-old Charlie's Angels actor - will start filming for the rom-com next year along with the other leads such as the 49-year-old Sherlock Holmes actor and the 53-year-old School of Rock star.

"The plan is to start filming next year. The main talent are all signed up," they wrote. "The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the UK and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board."

"It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world - it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up," they continued.

"It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming - just what everyone wants for Christmas," the source added.

The film is about two women who swap homes during the festive period - with Iris staying in Amanda's expensive Los Angeles pad while Amanda retreats to Iris' country escape.

Both characters are looking for a change in their lives after experiencing bad breakups, however, they end up falling in love with one another's worlds - with Amanda falling for Iris' brother Graham and Iris finding love with Amanda's colleague, Miles.

The movie has become a festive staple, costing about £70 million ($85 million) to make but going on to garner over £200 million ($243 million) at the box office.
