After selling nearly 200 million copies across the world, it's fair to say at this point that The Sims is one of the most popular video game series of all time. But you don't need to look at the numbers to tell how loved it has been since the very first game landed on PC back in 2000 - we were all playing it.

In the years since the release of the first game, there have been a few sequels and dozens (if not hundreds) of expansions to each of them, bringing even more features to add to your new virtual home. Basically, the series has come a long way in the 19 years since we first started forcing characters into romances and pools with no ladders like vindictive puppetmasters.

The Sims 4 launched back in 2014, and while it received mixed reviews (due to bugs and a lack of content), it soon made up for these shortcomings with its six expansions and various updates.

Recently, creators even added a first-person mode to the game, to see the classic game from an entirely different perspective. One of the biggest changes to the game, however, came this month - when EA announced that anyone could download the game for free.

Yep, you read that right: The Sims 4 is completely free.

All you have to do to get your download is to make a (free) account on EA's Origin platform, or sign in if you already have an account.

Once you've done this, you can download the standard edition of the game either through Origin itself (some have reported issues with this method) or simply through their website here, no matter what country you're in.

This version of The Sims 4 doesn't include any of the extra downloadable content - but it's still free, so what are you waiting for?

Just make sure you make your decision before Tuesday 28th May, when the deal comes to an end.
