A petition to bring Mindhunter back to Netflix has been doing the rounds online and for good reason too.

Now, if you're one of those murder mystery fanatics that love to relax by delving into the minds of notorious murderers, then you were probably obsessed with Netflix's thriller Mindhunter.

Set in the '70s, the show followed two FBI agents as they broadened the realm of criminal science by investigating the psychology behind murder and ended up getting too close to real-life monsters during their investigations.

Despite it being a massive hit amongst audiences, Netflix decided to cancel the show back in 2019 as announced by director David Fincher, leaving fans with a Mindhunter-shaped hole in their hearts.

Though they've not given up hope just yet.

A petition urging Netflix to bring the series back for a third season has been doing the rounds online again and has re-ignited the passion within the Mindhunter fanbase.

"Dear Mr. David Fincher, Joe Penhall, Charlize Theron, et. al.," wrote petition owner Dawn Bruner in the description. "We Mindhunter (Netflix) Fans respect and admire your amazing skills in writing, producing, and directing our favorite series. Many of us waited patiently and anticipated excitedly for Season 2 to drop, and when it finally arrived we were elated."

She continued: "We have watched, rewatched, and binge-watched, as well, we have dedicated hours to discussing our favorite scenes and characters, marveling at your brilliance, your attention to the minute details, appreciating the little quirks, nuances, and peculiarities throughout in our Facebook group, Mindhunter (Netflix) fans, which is 5,800 plus members strong, worldwide! Not to mention, with anyone else who listen!

"So we are understandably disappointed and upset at the decision to put Season 3 off indefinitely while Mr. David Fincher works on other projects," Bruner said. "We understand, you value those projects, and we feel the same about our Mindhunter. Please believe, even if the numbers didn't add up in Season 2 as they did for the first Season, we are still out here waiting faithfully and clamoring for more."

The writer then "respectfully" asked Fincher to reconsider his priorities and add Mindhunter back to the list so that dedicated fans would be able to pick up where they left off.

She even gave the director some extra advice writing: "...If that isn't a possibility and/or cannot be arranged, then please consider another director for Season 3. While the quality may not be at Fincher level, there are many mega-talented directors out there.

"Please don't let such a brilliant series die because we know, without doubt, this show/series has the potential to be Netflix most successful and popular ever," she added before signing off.

So far, the petition has garnered over 52,000 signatures but it's still a heft amount away from the goal which currently sits at 72,000.

Who knows if we'll ever get Mindhunter back, but one thing we do know is that the pull just isn't there.

Speaking to Forbes during an interview back in February 2023, Fincher insinuated that the chances of getting another season is slim to nothing.

"I'm very proud of the first two seasons. But it's a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn't attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment," the director explained. "I don't blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do Mank the way I wanted to do it and they allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer.

"It's a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness. The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways," he added.

Well, that's slightly devastating but the fans are not going to give up hope that one day they'll get that long-awaited third season.
