Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter has been hailed as "perfection" by her fans after sharing a sizzling swimsuit photo to her Instagram page.
The 71-year-old actress shot to fame during the 1970s for her role as Diana Prince, AKA Wonder Woman, in the live-action TV series about the superhero of the same name - whose powers are superhuman strength, speed, and flight.
Aired on both ABC and CBS between 1975 and 1979, the show's three seasons chronicled Prince's life as Wonder Woman - which began when a US fighter crash-landed his plane on an island inhabited only by women during the 1940s. When Prince rescued the pilot and learned of the war against the Nazis, she decided to help save the world.
The series has had a lasting legacy, and strongly influenced future Wonder Woman comics. In fact, Wonder Woman's ballerina-style spinning transformation - which would see a regularly-dressed Prince spin quickly and turn into a fully kitted-out Wonder Woman - was actually Carter's idea.
Given her legacy as the iconic superhero, it comes as no surprise that Carter is still wowing fans - even after almost five decades since first appearing on television screens as Wonder Woman.
Taking to Instagram earlier this week, the Phoenix, Arizona-born actress posted a throwback image of herself in a black halter neck swimsuit with lace detailing, and fans were impressed.
"I'm a happy guy who grew up with you as my role model and you have been incredible nonstop since [Wonder Woman], thank you for being an inspiration [sic]," one person commented.
Someone else added: "Absolute perfection - so stylish and elegant!"
Another excited fan chimed in with: "THANK GOD FOR LINDA CARTER AND BEING ALIVE TO WITNESS THIS MIRACLE OF A LIVING BREATHING GODDESS!!!"
In 2017, Carter reminisced on her starring role in an interview with CBS, explaining her perspective of portraying the Diana Prince/Wonder Woman character. Carter admitted she landed the role in 1975 because, physically and aesthetically, she looked the part - saying that this was both a blessing and a curse.
One of the show's producers warned her this might not necessarily always be a positive experience, telling Carter: "Oh, women are going to be so jealous of you." At the time, Carter had responded: "Not a chance. They won't be, because I am not playing her that way. I want women to want to be me, or be my best friend!"
Describing her portrayal of Wonder Woman, Carter also mentioned: "There is something about the character where in your creative mind for that time in your life where you pretended to be her, or whatever the situation was, that it felt like you could fly."
More recently, Israeli actress Gal Gadot has portrayed Wonder Woman in two separate movies - one in 2017 and a second in 2020. A third is in the works, and is set to star Carter, something Gadot revealed to The Hollywood Reporter was "so great."
"First of all, Lynda has mentored me from the very first moment that I got cast as Wonder Woman. She was always there, talking to me, giving me tips and everything. She's a true champion of what [director Patty Jenkins] and I have been doing, and it was so great that we managed to find the right opportunity to bring her to the last movie and now to the third one [...] It's even better this time. I love her very much. I love her dearly," Gadot said.
