Cracking the code of fast food in your home is always a challenge. Whether it’s mulling over the mystery of KFC’s combination of herbs and spices, or trying to suss out what exactly ends up in Domino’s garlic and herb dip, recreating your favourites without investing in some heavy duty lab equipment can seem impossible. Thankfully, when in doubt, you can always turn to Aldi.

Everyone’s favourite budget supermarket chain seem to have stumbled across another winner, after one satisfied customer declared that their 79p bottle of burger sauce tastes “almost exactly like the Big Mac sauce”.

According to reporting by The Sun newspaper, the comment came from the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, which was founded to help discerning customers find the best deals from around British shops. The woman who left the original comment also added, "I wish I knew this when I was pregnant because it was all I ever wanted!"

Put the sauce to good use by making these epic Big Mac fries:

While McDonald’s are understandably guarded when it comes to their recipe, several chefs have had a stab at recreating the Big Mac’s signature sauce over the years. Almost all recipes revolve around some combination of mayonnaise, yellow mustard, pickle relish and paprika, with optional added extras that can include crushed mustard seeds, sugar and garlic powder.

While the Sun said that Aldi are yet to reveal their own imitation formula, the paper did reveal that the chain haven’t made the sauce available online, meaning that the only way to get it currently is head to a store. While perfecting the sauce is obviously only one aspect of the authentic McDonald’s experience, it certainly seems like Aldi may have stumbled on the first step to Big Mac bliss.
