Now, it may be the fact that I'm getting older, or perhaps I was never clued up to the level I should have been, but after seeing this dress, I can officially say that I no longer understand the world of fashion.

We've seen many questionable clothing releases this year - from goth Crocs to this baffling micro bikini - but this dress may be one of the most bizarre items of clothing ever to be sold to the public.

Listed on the popular clothing retail site ASOS, the 'Elissa Poppy Lacetex Slip Dress' has stirred up a little attention online.

Initially listed at $553, the good news is (if you can call it that), the dress is currently on sale, and can be yours today for just $331.50, that's 40% off from the original price tag! A clear bargain.

Made from natural latex and boasting sweetheart neckline, ribbon-tie fastening, and strapless design, the site suggests the wearer "apply talcum powder for ease of dressing". Seriously.

The product's description also goes into detail about designer Elissa Poppy and her label, stating:

"Winner of the 2016 ASOS Fashion Discovery competition, award-winning designer Elissa Poppy combines latex with lace to create a range of couture-inspired lingerie. With each piece handmade in the UK, her bras, thongs and slip dresses are a sleek addition to your underwear drawer."

The model in the pictures has teamed the dress with some white underwear, and a white t-shirt dress - both incredible looks, I'm sure you'll agree.

However, despite Poppy's awards in the fashion industry, there have been several Twitter users who have likened the dress to a bag of onions:

Upon closer inspection, you can see they kinda have a point.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and fashion is an ever-changing phenomenon that has no wrong or right! So who are we to say you won't look totally killer in this dress? (But if you do decide that this is the perfect dress for you and you go ahead and buy it, be warned; it is handwash only.)
