A balding man appeared to undergo drastic measures in order to give the appearance of having more hair than he actually had.

Now, speaking as a bald man, I can honestly say that losing your hair isn't fun. But despite all the expensive lotions and potions out there, I eventually realized it was best to just take it on the chin and accept my fate as a 'chrome dome'.

However, that doesn't mean that there aren't legions of men and women out there who will go to extreme lengths in order to hold onto their hair - and with science and technology advancing, there are more and more ways people can achieve a hairy look.

...Although, this story certainly isn't one of them.

As reported by the Daily Mail, a balding man by the name of Gianluca recently paid a visit to Italy-based tattoo artist Maria Gina Altobelli in order to receive a new fringe tattoo.

In a video shared to the 30-year-old tattoo artist's TikTok channel (@gipsygtattooer), she shared a video of the moment Gianluca received his new "inking" and saw the results.

She captioned the post (translated from Italian): "My client has always dreamed of bangs and I have fulfilled his wish".

Check out the video below:

The clip shows Gianluca wincing as he receives the "tattoo", and when all is said and done, the results are hilariously bad. When he finally looks in the mirror, he can be seen covering his eyes and appearing to cry.

And with the video amassing more than 27 million views, it's safe to say that people in the comments section had opinions to share.

"She should have let him see how the stencil looked on his head before making it permanent. Then there's the gap between bald spot and bangs," one person commented.

A second added: "I don’t think he’s crying [because] he’s happy…"

And a third asked: "Why didn’t he just use a sharpie?"

With a fourth adding: "Was she supposed to do a bad job?"

Well, the answer to that last question is yes - because Maria has since shared a follow-up video that explained that the whole thing was just a joke.

"A few days ago, I posted this video. Given the large numbers I wanted to show you how his bangs healed," Maria says in the follow-up video. "The video also received both positive and negative [comments]. So guys today I'm here with Gianluca to show how [his 'tattoo'] healed."

But when Gianluca enters the frame, it is clear the pair had almost everyone duped, as he was wearing an outlandish stick-on fringe.

Through a wry smile, he even jokes: "Wow, healed so well, it seems real."

And it's safe to say that people in the comments section were relieved to learn the truth:

I guess we really do need to question everything we see on social media these days.
