In a world that can often seem a bit bleak, there are still people who show us that kindness truly does exist.

Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in the doom and gloom across the world as those news stories seem to be much more common.

Given that things can seem a bit gray at times, it's important to take note of the good people that still exist and are making our society a better place to live.

Kelvin Ellis Jr., nine, found himself at the center of attention last month after he spontaneously donated his only dollar to a man he thought was homeless outside a Baton Rouge coffee shop.

Little did he know, the recipient of his kindness was none other than Matt Busbice, the owner of a local sporting goods store.

Recalling the moment, Kelvin said: "‘If you’re homeless, here’s a dollar,'" as reported by CBS News.

However, Busbice, a successful entrepreneur who has built and sold several outdoor companies worth millions, was not actually homeless.

He had been temporarily displaced from his condo due to a fire alarm and had stopped outside the coffee shop to say his morning prayers.

As Busbice stood there in mismatched clothes, he was taken aback when young Kelvin approached him with a clenched fist. Expecting a confrontation, Busbice was pleasantly surprised when Kelvin opened his hand to reveal the single dollar bill.

Despite being his only money, Kelvin was eager to help someone he believed needed it more. "I always wanted to help a homeless person, and I finally had the opportunity," Kelvin shared.

Moved by Kelvin's gesture, Busbice invited the young boy for a snack and got in touch with his father. Eventually, he extended an invitation to Kelvin for a shopping spree at his sporting goods store, BuckFeather.

During the spree, Kelvin had 40 seconds to pick out anything he desired from the store, including a new bike.

Though grateful for the gifts, Kelvin emphasized that his act of kindness was not motivated by a desire for reward.

"Joy, because I helped someone," he explained. "Give something away, and you feel like you’ve got a lot of things from it."

Busbice, touched by Kelvin's compassion, expressed how the boy had restored his faith in humanity. "If you give, you’re actually going to get more out of that," he remarked. "I couldn’t grasp that as a kid. And if we can spread that around, everything changes."

Good people still exist!
