Company creates GPS in-soles so you can keep track of loved ones with dementia

A company has created GPS in-soles so that people can keep track of their loved ones with dementia.

Now, writing as a former nursing home employee, this is an incredibly useful device. Unfortunately, those with dementia are prone to wander, which can make caring for them, especially in the home environment, extremely difficult.

If a person becomes lost, it's of the utmost importance that they are located as quickly as possible so that they don't come to any harm, which is why these GPS in-soles could be a lifesaver.

This is how the soles can be used to help care for a loved one with dementia:

The GPS SmartSole's product description reads: "GPS SmartSole® is a smartphone hidden and sealed within a water-resistant, trimmable shoe insert. It uses GPS and 2G cellular technology, is charged about every day, and requires [a] service plan - all just like a smartphone. Test to ensure 2G cellular coverage in your area, then the SmartSole will automatically update its location.

"THE KEY ADVANTAGE: GPS SmartSole® is discreet and your loved one won’t forget to bring it with them! Track your loved one for a fraction of the cost of a 'lockdown' memory care facility. Safety and independence made affordable - now that is peace of mind!"

Per the GPS SmartSole's website, the shoes haven't just been created for people with dementia and Alzheimer's, but those afflicted by other conditions including autism and developmental disabilities, whose locations may also need to be tracked by loved ones.

This is the heartwarming moment a woman with dementia saw her husband on their 72nd wedding anniversary:

The company cited the 2013 World Alzheimer’s Report while promoting the GPS SmartSole, writing, "currently over 100 million people require oversight due to various forms of memory impairment.  That number is expected to increase to 277 million by 2050."

It explained that of the people in this group, 60% of people will find themselves lost at least once, with 70% finding themselves lost three or more times, and horrifyingly, 46% will die if they are not found within 24 hours.

A review from Ruthie Horton, the administrator at a care facility, read: "GPS SmartSole totally allows our residents to remain here in our Home without them having to be discharged to another facility. This is their Home now and it would be very sad if they had to leave because of their potential to wander. GPS SmartSole is truly a lifesaver for all of us."

The GPS SmartSole is available in two packages, the cheapest of which begins at $299. On top of this, there is a $24.95 activation fee and a monthly service charge of $14.95.

So, if you or someone you know could benefit from the peace of mind that the GPS SmartSoles offer, they are available for purchase here.
