A first-grader who opted to keep his face mask on for his school photo has been showered with praise for listening to his mom.
Young Mason arrived at his school's picture day determined to keep his mom's advice in mind. Recalling the conversation Mason had with the school's photographer, Mason's mom, Nicole, wrote on Facebook:
"Photographer: Ok, take your mask off.
"Mason: My mom said to keep it on all the time unless I'm eating and far away from everybody.
"Photographer: I'm sure it's ok to take it off for your pictures.
"Mason: No, my mom seriously told me to make sure to keep it on.
"Photographer: Are you sure you don't want to take it off for 2 seconds?
"Mason: No Thank you, I always listen to my mom!
"Photographer: Ok, say cheese!"
The end result was an adorable snap of Mason looking adorable - all while wearing his face mask.
Nicole's post added: "I'm so proud of him for sticking to his word but I should have been more clear about my rules on this day".
The post quickly went viral on the social media site, amassing over 16,000 shares and more than 27,000 reactions. And in the comments section, people were quick to praise young Mason for listening to his mom's advice.
One person commented: "You should be proud! It has to be hard to stand up to an adult but he had the confidence to stand up for what he thought was right. Good job mama!"
A second wrote: "That's hilarious! I wish some of my students were that committed to wearing their masks."
Responding the all the positive comments, Nicole wrote:
"All of you have made my little one’s day!! He is such a good kind hearted, caring, loving, smart, and helpful little boy. Thank you for showing him that his honesty and integrity will make a big difference in this world."
Now the mom has set up a GoFundMe for her son after people kept asking how they could donate "for gifts, ice cream, or Mason's college scholarship".
As of this writing, everybody's kind donations have currently raised a whopping $38,960 for Mason!
It just goes to show you: Always listen to your mom!
