This is the message the newly named Suzy Eddie Izzard wanted to convey to her fans during her recent appearance on
Matt Forde’s Political Party podcast on Monday.
Fans of the comedian and hopeful MP will know that Izzard has long been open about their gender fluidity. She has been out since 1985 - proudly taking to stages wearing dresses and nail polish for performances as early as 1992.
And back in 2020, she would ask to publicly be addressed by she/her pronouns for the very first time during an appearance on Sky Arts' Portrait Artist of the Year.
During that appearance, she announced that she was gender fluid, revealing: "I just want to be based in girl mode from now on."
Now, Izzard has unveiled the name she has wanted to be called since her childhood: Suzy.
Speaking to Forde, the 61-year-old revealed that they will be switching between Eddie and the new moniker, explaining (per The Mirror): "I'm Eddie. There’s another name I'm going to add in as well, which is Suzy, which I wanted to be since I was 10.
"I’m going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard."
"That’s how I’m going to roll, so people can choose what they want," she added. "They can’t make a mistake, they can’t go wrong."
Izzard has been fighting to become Labour's parliamentary candidate for Sheffield Central, but lost her bid back in December. However, she has also revealed that she has faced transphobia in her political venture.
"Some people have been transphobic when I was going for the [MP] selection, coming out as trans was not easy back in 1985," she told Forde.
She then said that although she doesn't know how many genders there are, she believes "we're all somewhere on the spectrum" and that "we have just got to chill out about it."
Speaking to the Huffington Post back in 2021, Izzard to a patient stance when it came to people adjusting to her new pronoun preferences.
After saying that she spent "50 years predominantly in boy mode", she said: "It’s just a language adjustment. And no one should get het up about it."
Izzard continued: "I’m still gender fluid and I tell everyone that’s supported me, ‘Relax people, he or she, it doesn’t really matter.’ The pronoun thing isn’t the important thing, the important thing was coming out [as trans] back in 1985, that was the tough time."
