Two transgender parents claim that a nurse refused to let the two of them meet their newborn baby.

According to The Independent, Jake and Hannah Graf, who are the first transgender couple in the United Kingdom to become parents, say that they nearly were left in tears thanks to an obstructive hospital worker.

The Grafs welcomed a baby girl, Millie, via a surrogate in a hospital in Belfast back in April 2020.

Take a look at this interview with Jake and Hannah on Good Morning Britain:

However, in a recent appearance on the podcast, Happy Mum, Happy Baby, Jake claimed that when the two of them arrived at the hospital to meet their child, they were barred by a "very busy" nurse.

This nurse allegedly told the Grafs that she couldn't give them any information on baby Millie's whereabouts, and was apparently "unimpressed" when the couple told her they were the child's parents.

Per the above publication, trans activist Jake stated:

"There was yellow tape everywhere, it was absolutely deserted, the car park was mostly cordoned off, there was no one in any of the receptions. We went in looking for anyone who could help."

Thankfully, the couple was later able to see Millie after the birthing partner of Laura, their surrogate, said that they would let them into the maternity ward.

According to a 2020 interview with The Daily Mail, the couple spoke about becoming parents, with Jake stating: "Millie is eight months old now, but there are still moments when it doesn’t feel real that we’re parents.

"At least once a day I say to Hannah: 'Can you believe we have a baby?' Sharing our experience is done in the hope that we can show dreams really can come true."

Meanwhile, Hannah also spoke about her own emotional experience, stating: "As [Millie] lay in my arms, I felt overwhelmed with love and a powerful sense of my bond with her.

"It hit me with such force that it didn’t matter to her that we weren't genetically related; she just wanted my love and care."
