Meet the girl who cosplays as the most unexpected things
Cosplay is a phenomenon. Now that we live in the digital age, it is easier than ever before for pop culture fans to unite, and this has had some incredible results when it comes to the kinds of outfits showcased online and at events.
But one cosplayer with a difference is Mira Park, who instead of opting for dressing up as the who's who? of fandoms like Lord of the Rings, instead chose to dress up as unexpected characters. And, trust me, the results give a whole new meaning to the words creativity and impressive. So, we've compiled a list of 30 of her best creations. Enjoy!
Gary The Snail (Spongebob Squarepants)
Spongebob is an animated phenomenon and one character we've come to know and love is Gary the sail, Spongebob's pet. And for obvious reasons, snails aren't the first thing that spring to mind when most of us think of cosplay. But not Mira...
Now, I don't know about you, but I'd no idea Gary's human counterpart would look so majestic. This is definitely giving me Princess Leia vibes. Mira captioned the picture: "there once was a man from peru, who dreamed he was eating his shoe, he woke with a fright in the middle of the night to find that his dream had come true." Snailed it!
Handsome Squidward (Spongebob Squarepants)
One character from Spongebob who you might expect the odd person to cosplay as is, of course, Squidward Tentacles! But like so many characters on the show, he's got more than one incarnation and Mira cosplayed as the most unusual. Obviously.
Sexy or terrifying? It's hard to say, but one thing's for sure - I doubt anyone else has ever dressed up as Handsome Squidward before! Props to Mira for even drawing on some curly chest hair.
It's the subject of countless hilarious memes about bizarre movie ideas which became a reality, so obviously, Mira was going to cosplay as Sharknado on her quest to channel the more unusual pop culture icons.
"This is a twister with TEETH," she captioned this picture before adding, "i made this cosplay start to finish the night before the convention and lemme tell u i wanted to clip thru the floor the entire time."
Lara Croft is a pretty standard go-to cosplay option, but Mira being Mira, she wanted to keep things real (and hilarious) by channeling her as we saw her back in the day!
Ah, those pointy, pixelated boobs. Writing as a woman, I can only hope that whatever Mira was creating them with was comfortable because it doesn't look like it.
Lord Farquaad (Shrek)
Lord Farquaad is memorable for all the wrong reasons. A nightmarish incarnation of every repulsive fairy tale prince, and Mira channelled this gloriously with her cosplay of him.
She captioned the image: "Art thou nasty?" But added that she wasn't particularly pleased with this cosplay. Well, for what it's worth, I think it's awesome. That hairy chest bikini really makes the outfit. And the beard. Naturally.
Emily (Corpse Bride)
Tim Burton's characters are instantly recognizable with their long spindly limbs and wide eyes, but because they're so far removed from what us human look like, they're not a popular option.
Even more so when those characters just so happen to be dead... and blue. And while Mira did admit that she edited the color of her skin in this picture, I think we can all agree that she absolutely nailed being an undead bride.
M87’s Black Hole
But while cosplaying as unusual characters is one thing, it's another to cosplay as a celestial feature, something which Mira managed to pull off when she channeled the dark space beauty of M87's black hole.
She hilariously captioned this picture: "black hole M87 be like sorry I've been rly inactive KDJSKS have this garbage for now, im trying my best also if u didn’t see my story, I’ll be at friday of acen [sic]."
The Matchmaker (Mulan)
When it comes to Disney cosplay, gender aside, most people dress up as one of Disney's many beautiful characters, but not Mira, instead, she once again opted for someone more unusual, pained facial expression and all.
Clearly, Mira is a harsh critic, and while she might have described her Matchmaker cosplay as the "worst thing" she's ever created, given how similar it is to the Matchmaker, it's impossible not to say she nailed it.
Ah, Pokemon. It was almost impossible to grow up in the noughties and not go on at least one quest to caption them all. Who'd have thought they'd make for such impressive cosplay?!
She captioned this cosplay: "yall this is my whole ass first time ever making armor and using eva foam and worbla and dare I say... i kinda went off. this design is based off art by the amazing @noflutter!!"
Boulder Spongebob (Spongebob Squarepants)
If you hadn't realized already, Mira loves Spongebob, and though some people might have sid this was one character who'd be impossible to cosplay, she's proven that with enough creativity, you can really do anything.
In my opinion, this is the best cosplay on this list so far. Mira captioned this brilliant creation: "hate squidward. What the f*ck is a “boulder”??? ? B*tch im gonna kill you - dinwxodjs his little feets [sic]."
Him (The Powerpuff Girls)
While most Powerpuff Girls fans naturally cosplay as the girls themselves, Mira opted for the show's evil crossdressing lobster, Him. As you do.
She captioned this picture: "this b*itch was so creepy KEJDKSJ also ignore the microwave mac n cheese on my floor my life is in shambles [sic]."
"Goofy Goober" Spongebob (Spongebob Squarepants)
Spongebob has a strange existence, and gets into all kinds of trouble - some of which, if we're honest, we're surprised hasn't left him dead. Like this...
This takes commitment to your art to a whole new level. While not as complicated an outfit as boulder Spongebob to pull off, it's impossible to deny that this looks damn painful. I salute your commitment to bizarre cosplays, Mira!
Minecraft is the online, world-building phenomenon where just about anything is possible, but one you're unlikely to have seen now is Minecraft cosplay!
She simply captioned this picture: "say goodbye to ur diamonds." I never thought I'd use Minecraft and sexy in the same sentence, but here we are. Those hells are killer.
The great thing about Mira's unusual cosplays is that they demonstrate that, sometimes, you can nail a more out there look with minimal materials. All she really needed for this one was the perfect hat!
She captioned this cosplay: "oh? something NOT minecraft or spongebob related? interesting HHHHHHHHH throwing it back to my first ACTUAL goof cosplay." First go? Impressive.
Tinky Winky (Teletubbies)
Short of buying a suit, most of us would agree that dressing up as one of the Teletubbies would be nigh on impossible, but once again, Mira has proved that it can be done.
She captioned this cosplay: "but,, tubby custard looks absolutely delicious and u cannot fight me on that. this is legitimately repulsive and i hate it so obv i had to make all of you see it too [sic]."
Dennis (Spongebob Squarepants)
Yes, if you hadn't worked it out already, Mira is a colossal Spongebob fan. Another lesser-known character is Dennis, whose look she also nailed.
She captioned this cosplay: "I LOVE THIS JOB [gets squished by Bigger Boot]." The only thing that could have made this better would have been if she'd painted herself green!
"Goofy Goober" Patrick Star (Spongebob Squarepants)
Since Mira dressed up as Goofy Goober Spongebob, it only stood to reason that she'd also dress up as Goofy Goober Patrick Star.
Just like with Minecraft, I never thought I'd be saying it was possible for Patrick Star and sexy to be used in the same sentence, but here we are again. Just look at those fishnet tights! And those boots! Phwar.
Dancing Lady Emoji
But while we have TV shows and video games aplenty in the modern world, another instantly recognizable thing we have are, of course, emoji, and Mira decided to cosplay as one of the best and most frequently used - the dancing lady!
She captioned this picture: "fun fact this was originally going to be my prom dress until I found the other one at goodwill AND it’s hunter green irl.. this was so tedious to photoshop so yall better enjoy this terrible content."
Tulio (The Road To El Dorado)
One of the most underrated children's movies of all time is The Road To El Dorado, so I can't tell you how impressed I am that Mira cosplayed as Tulio.
Naturally, she captioned this picture: "HAVE YOU SEEN MY SON."
King Julien (Madagascar)
Think that humans can't dress up as lemurs? Think again. In fact, rethink everything you know about what does and doesn't make a good (and sexy) cosplay.
Needless to say, there was only one caption she could have used for this cosplay: "I LIKE 2 MOVE IT MOVE IT". Mira added: "UHHHH THIS WAS SUPPOSED 2 B A SHITPOST WHY DID THE MAKEUP TURN OUT..,. REALLY GOOD."
Jorgen Von Strangle (The Fairly Oddparents)
Unfortunately, because Mira is a very attractive woman, she's come under fire for making some cosplays too "sexy", but for this one, she explained that she simply had no choice.
She captioned this picture: "before some dumbass comes in my comments like 'whAT a WH*RE jorgen van strangle wears PANTS' I ORDERED JEANS more than 2 weeks ago from fashion nova with 2 day shipping and they haven't even been shipped yet so... blame fashion nova for being a lil b*tch who takes 2 weeks to process my one item order [sic]."
Lord Farquaad (Shrek)
Mira admitted that she wasn't happy with her first Lord Farquaad cosplay, so it only stood to reason that she'd recreate his look again. One thing's for sure - this is definitely a lot more regal than the first look.
Clearly referencing the gun she is holding, she captioned this picture: "call me lord f*ckwad one more time."
The great thing about cosplay is that it gives people a chance to showcase their interests in a creative way. Needless to say, Mira loves Minecraft and wasn't content with just cosplaying it once!
She captioned this brilliant Creeper outfit: "SO WE BACK IN THE MINE."
Spongebob (Spongebob Squarepants)
Anyone who watches Spongebob knows that he works at the Krusty Crab and is an expert at making crabbie patties, as for salads? Not so much.
Mira jokingly captioned this cosplay: "what's a salad????"
Enoshima Junko + Jack Sparrow (Pirates Of The Caribbean)
The vast majority of Pirates of the Carribean fans will probably agree that Jack Sparrow is sexy in his own way, but about this combination of him and Enoshima Junko?
Mira wrote: "i regret nothing, ever." Personally, I'm not sure what to think!
Doctor Eggman (Sonic The Hedgehog)
There are some characters who're never going to be sexy, which is why this cosplay is so incredibly confusing. A killer pair of legs with that mustache?! I don't know what to think.
Mira captioned this picture: "IVE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG IS A B*TCH A*S MOTHERF*CKER. [sic]"
Saitama (One-Punch Man)
This is definitely one of Mira's most impressive cosplays. When you've got a full head of hair, cosplaying as someone without any takes some serious skill.
She captioned this cosplay: "that means today is... BARGAIN DAY AT THE SUPERMARKET! God I've been waiting to do this for so long I just didn’t know how bald caps work (I still dont)."
Donald Trump Playing Tennis
No, this isn't fake news. Mira did cosplay as the president playing tennis, and once again, I don't know what to think. I mean, she got the outfit down to a tee.
But her body shape is just so different from the president's (who was certified overweight earlier this year) that it's hard to believe that even in the world of cosplay he can be sexy.
Waluigi (Super Mario)
Understandably, Mira's cosplays have caused a sensation Instagram where she posts the under the name "beebinch" and she's amassed an impressive 129K followers.
She captioned this cosplay with a motivating message for he fans: "finals: failed
brain cell: fried
wa: luigi -
WAAAAAH have this,, awful awful image, sexy waluigi is guiding u all thru finals and he wants u to succeed [sic]."
Dancing Rabbits Emoji
Because Mira's dancing lady emoji cosplay was so brilliant, it only seemed right to end this list with another - the dancing rabbits emoji.
Nailed it. Although a few of the cosplayer's fans did suggest that this look could have been even better if she'd worn a blonde wig, and I have to agree.
You can keep up-to-date with Mira's cosplays by following her Instagram.
