Has your kid been getting straight A's at school recently? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you might want to quit beaming proudly for a second and go check your Amazon Echo.

This is the revelation that struck one mum when she recently stumbled upon her sneaky six-year-old getting Alexa to help him with his homework.

Yerelyn Cueva had sat her son, Jariel, at the table and left him to do the winter break maths work given to him by his teacher.

However, when she overheard him asking the virtual assistant to give him the answers to his sums, she quickly realised that her ingenious child had found a way to get around hard work.

A hilarious video uploaded to social media shows her well and truly busting her unsuspecting son by bursting into the room and shouting "boy!"

The 24-year-old mother captioned the footage: "Lmfao should i whoop him now or later".

While Yerelyn didn't overly appreciate Jariel taking the easy way out, the internet had other ideas.

As the video went viral - receiving more than eight million views, almost 140,000 retweets and more than 475,000 likes - people online hailed the six-year-old as a true innovator.

"Reward that man for being a young genius and finesser," wrote Twitter user @TIMTHETOOLMANN, with another person on Twitter called @ItsTheBAUCE naming Jariel "a prodigy".

"He should be rewarded with gifts before Christmas. Honestly," added @AuthorL_Hayes, while another Twitter user going by the name of @MrTylerRolling compared the young boy to Albert Einstein, writing: "'Never memorize something that you can look up.' -AE".

Discussing the incident with the New York Post, Jariel's mother Yerelyn claimed the unintended math tutor was only in the home for one week before she caught her mischievous son.

"It was just any regular day of doing homework," she said. "I’m in the living room, and I overheard him asking Alexa some math problems, and I could not believe it! What you don’t see is after he says, 'Thank you, Alexa, for helping me with my homework.'"

However, the young mum isn't worried at all about her little one, disclosing that Jariel is actually pretty savvy when it comes to mathematics.

"The funny thing is that math is actually his favourite subject," she said. "I was surprised because he knows this stuff. He was just being lazy. Taking a shortcut."

Nonetheless, that doesn't mean that Jariel and Alexa can continue their unanticipated friendship.

“I’m probably going to have to turn it off so he doesn’t just keep on cheating,” the mother admitted.

I guess it's proof that all good things must come to an end. Good luck with school, Jariel!
