Americans find this regional accent to be the sexiest In US
A survey revealed which American accent is the sexiest, indicating that just the right accent will unlock somebody’s heart.
The poll, which was done by language-learning platform Babbel, surveyed 2,000 single Americans in a contest to uncover which accent ranked the best from people looking for love.
Some of the results might just leave you shocked as well…
Southern America steals the show
States spanning the southern parts of the country all earned top points for their charming accents that seem to warm American hearts.
The most attractive accent was stretched across Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, the Carolinas, Texas and Alabama.
Many vowels within the southern accent often are split into two syllables where the vowels have a longer duration within smaller words. The slowed-down paced rhythm can be linked to romance as the tone carries a unique charm and element of confidence.
Of course, if you don’t live in the south and you think you have never heard the accent before, there are a few singers who put the accent into the spotlight.
Country singers like Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs insert their twang into their music while global-renowned singer Dolly Parton shines with her voice.
Louisiana and NYC best of the rest
Just below the southern favorites landed Louisiana and Cajun English accents. While the Louisiana accent, which primarily includes the yat accent of New Orleans, is more broad as it blends a mix of French, Spanish, African, Caribbean, and Southern U.S. cultures, Cajun English is considered a specific sub-category.
Perhaps the reason Cajun English ranks so highly is because it’s vastly sought after. In the 1960s there were up to one million fluent speakers of the accent; with that number now dropping to only around 20,000 people.
The iconic New Yorker accent landed the third spot amongst single Americans. The fast rhythm and the dropped “r” sounds have made it easily recognizable and put it as a leading accent to make singletons' hearts flutter.
The top five was also made up of Miami English and the general American accent.
Accents that will immediately turn someone off
However, there were some accents that ranked the lowest and it’s not great reading for citizens of the East and West coasts.
The Appalachian English accent which is commonly spoken in States consisting of Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia, claimed the unwanted title of the least sexiest accent where the “r” is strongly pronounced.
The Philadelphian, Great Lakes, and Boston accents were all also least desirable and less flirtatious, while the California English accent was equally found to not set pulses racing.
It’s not just American accents that were included on the survey as people were also asked which European accent they find most attractive with the Italian accent taking the pole position.
The British, French and Spanish accents also ranked highly amongst Americans.
The recent Babbel survey found that 60% of singles consider someone’s accent when deciding whether to swipe right or left on dating apps, and 26% say a “bad accent” would instantly rule someone out.
While the country offers a variety of accents from a seductive Southern tone to an infamous New Yorker voice, there is something for everyone.
