Chance the Rapper is a great... well, rapper. He's also the world's biggest sweetheart, if the way he talks about his soon-to-be-wife is anything to go by.
The hip hop artist is getting married to his fiancé, Kirsten Corley, this weekend, the next stop in a relationship that's been pretty adorable to watch from the sidelines. When he won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2017, he thanked her, and later called her his "oldest and best friend" in an Instagram post in May.
The couple have a young daughter, Kensli, who's about two years old now. All three of them were hanging out at a family barbecue on July 4 last summer when he decided to pop the question. His brother posted a photo of himself with the couple, who have been together for five years, which was where the news first dropped:
The big moment was even caught on video, later re-posted onto Instagram by TheShadeRoom, showing Chance asking: "Kirsten Katrina Corley, will you make me a man and be my wife?"
Now that the big day is just around the corner, Chance decided to share the story of how he met Kirsten. While they didn't get together until more recently, they first met all the way back in 2003 - when the rapper was just nine years old.
First, he shared a photo taken on that day.
Telling the story across a series of screenshots from his Notes app (usually reserved for dramatic celebrity apologies), he explained how they first met at a party for the company his mother worked for.
"I was probably playing a Gameboy in a corner or eating candy, initially unimpressed by my surroundings," he wrote. "But THEN...out of nowhere, we were all told to make room, to spread out and make a circle for a presentation."
They were told to "make way for an exclusive performance by DESTINY'S CHILD!!" And that's when Kirsten appeared alongside two other girls, taking the place of Michelle, Beyoncé and Kelly.
According to Chance, Kirsten looked a "little bit older" than him, and the trio danced and lip-synced to the Destiny's Child hit 'Independent Women' - and it sounds like she made a serious impression on baby Chance.
"Now I'm locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on Earth," he said. "I really shouldn't even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her."
His dad tried to get him to dance with them (he'd won talent shows for his dancing skills) but he couldn't face it in the moment - and for good reason. He explained:
"This wasn't the time or place. Not just because it wasn't my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks.
"It's cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain't wanna jump the gun."
He ended up being far too nervous to even introduce himself that day - and it took him nine years to speak to her properly.
At South by Southwest in 2012, they met again, and according to Chance they reconnected once they headed back to Chicago. Oh, and if anyone's wondering - Kirsten was Kelly Rowland during their first meeting.
"16 years later it's happening," he wrote. "This [weekend] is the time, and the place is my wedding. I'm gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny."
Fans on Twitter couldn't help but have their hearts a little bit melted when they heard about the story, and took to the platform to congratulate the soon-to-be husband and wife.
Here's to the happy couple getting married this weekend.
