The world's tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, and the world's smallest woman, Jyoti Amge, met up in person for the first time to celebrate their unique records.
To mark Guinness World Records Day 2024, the two women shared a pot of tea at London's prestigious Savoy Hotel.
Gelgi, hailing from Turkey, stands an imposing 7 feet tall. Diagnosed with Weaver syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes tall stature, the 27-year-old usually uses a wheelchair to move, but she can walk for short periods with a walker.
Meanwhile, Amge measures just about 2 feet (24 inches) tall. Despite her small stature, the 30-year-old has made a significant mark on the world, including a role in the popular TV series American Horror Story.
The meeting, which was arranged by Guinness, was a chance for both record-holders to bond with their physical differences.
The pair were filmed engaging in conversation while sipping tea and sitting across a coffee table from one another. They even shared interests such as makeup, self-care, and fashion.
“It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time,” Gelgi said, cited by News.com.au. “It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great.
“We do have things in common; we both love makeup, self-care, and doing our nails,” Gelgi added.
Jyoti Amge mirrored the sentiment of connection and mutual respect, saying: “I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman.
“I’m delighted that I’ve met Rumeysa, she is so good-natured, and I felt very comfortable talking to her,” she added.
The images provided by Guinness World Records vividly illustrate the striking difference in their sizes.
According to the records website, Gelgi was named the tallest teenage living female at the age of 17. She was then confirmed as the tallest woman living in 2021 and holds the titles of the largest hands (female), the longest fingers (female), the longest ears (female), and the longest back (female).
Amge was named the shortest teenager in 2009 at 15 years old before being confirmed as the shortest woman in 2011.
The two women were celebrated as icons for Guinness World Records' 70th-anniversary edition.
"I can’t explain how happy I am!" Amge praised, per PEOPLE. Gelgi echoed: "I've seen myself among all these artists and athletes that I’ve always been a fan of – it’s an indescribable feeling."
