Remember the hell of April 2017? Pepsi pulled that ad with Kendall Jenner that trivialised demonstrations and the eighth Fast and Furious movie came out. But on top of all that, we'll never forget the Unicorn Frappuccino that took over social media that month.
Now, Starbucks revisits the idea of viral, bright drinks. This Wednesday, July 10, the chain will reportedly release the Tie-Dye Frappuccino. The new creation supposedly tastes like banana Laffy Taffy, and will be on-the-market for five days while supplies lasts.
Starbucks employees are already practicing their wicked skills in preparation. Several have taken to Instagram to post the results (which I hope isn't an HR issue).
Though the drinks look beautiful, many employees aren't happy. The new frappe, which requires three powders to make, is a time-intensive process. Some employees, or "partners" as Starbucks calls them, see it as a repeat of the notorious Unicorn Frappuccino, which also took forever to make.
One employee said the Tie-Dye Frappuccino might not even be worth the precious hours of the day that you will wait in line for it, as they describe the drink as "sour." One disgruntled partner told Business Insider: "It looks like it's going to be the Unicorn Frappuccino all over again, which the company said they wouldn't do again because of partner feedback. They don't give a damn about us, and it's obvious."
New Starbucks drinks, like this one, that are often only available for a short period are purposely coloured brightly so they go viral online. And this one looks like it will be no different.
If you're a pessimist, it is likely the Tie-Dye Frappuccino will not taste as good as it looks, following the tragic fate of the Unicorn Frappuccino. But if you're a hopeful optimist, find your most-comfortable shoes and get ready to wait in line. If nothing else, you'll get a good Instagram picture out of it.
